Matters.AI Integrates With Upwind To Link Cloud Risks To Sensitive Data

CW Bureau ·

Matters.AI, a data detection and response platform, has developed a native API integration with Upwind to help security teams identify which cloud exposures could put sensitive business data at risk.

The integration connects Upwind’s cloud security context with Matters.AI’s data discovery, classification and database activity monitoring capabilities, reducing the need for security teams to manually correlate findings across multiple systems.

Linking cloud risks to business data
A high-severity cloud security alert does not necessarily show which business records could be affected. Upwind provides context on running workloads, processes, identities and network paths, while Matters.AI adds information on the data associated with those environments, including sensitivity, access permissions and activity.

By combining the two perspectives, security teams can investigate the relationship between an infrastructure exposure and the sensitive data it could potentially affect.

The integration maps Upwind findings to Matters.AI’s classification results for the affected datastore. For posture and configuration findings, Matters.AI uses a 24-hour ingestion cycle.

Where Upwind is the authoritative posture source for an account, Matters.AI suppresses its own posture results to reduce duplication.

Prioritising data exposure
The resulting exposure queue allows security teams to prioritise findings using both cloud-security context and the sensitivity of associated records.

Database activity monitoring adds query-level information to investigations, providing additional visibility into how data is being accessed.

Matters.AI, Co-Founder and CTO, Harsh Sahu said integrating the platform with Upwind’s runtime visibility would enable security teams to connect live cloud activity with sensitive data assets.

He said the integration enriches Matters.AI’s AI-native semantic engine with live process and socket telemetry, providing a unified view of data risk.

Upwind Security, Head of Tech Alliances, Alon Saban said Upwind provides real-time runtime data along with cloud and AI security context, which Matters.AI can use to enrich its data sets and connect cloud activity with sensitive data at risk.

Native API connection
Customers can connect their existing Upwind organisation through Matters.AI’s native API connector. The platform uses cloud posture information already collected by Upwind, avoiding the need to onboard the same cloud accounts to a second posture scanner.

Matters.AI’s scanning and classification activities take place within the customer’s environment, while operational metadata is exchanged through API connections.

The companies said the integration is designed to bring infrastructure findings, data classification and access activity together as evidence for security and compliance teams, helping them focus on cloud exposures that could have the greatest impact on sensitive business data.
