One In Three Bajaj Vehicles Is Electric, Says Rajiv Bajaj On The EV Revolution

Electric vehicles now account for 30% of Bajaj Auto’s domestic sales, with one in every three Bajaj vehicles sold in India being electric, Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said, underlining the company’s rapid transformation into one of India’s leading electric mobility players.

Addressing the fifth annual convocation of Mahindra University, Bajaj said speed, innovation and decisive execution have been central to the company’s success in navigating the transition to electric mobility, helping position Bajaj Auto as India’s largest electric vehicle company by volume.

EVs become a key growth driver
Reflecting on the company’s evolution from a scooter-focused manufacturer into a global two- and three-wheeler major, Bajaj said annual production is set to exceed three million scooters, motorcycles and three-wheelers, while exports now span 108 countries.

He noted that electric vehicles have emerged as a significant contributor to the company’s domestic business, accounting for nearly a third of total vehicle sales in India.

‘Speed matters more than perfection’
Highlighting the importance of timely decision-making in a rapidly changing automotive landscape, Bajaj said companies should not wait for perfect certainty before acting.

“The cost of being late to market far exceeds the cost of being wrong,” he said, urging future business leaders to embrace calculated risks and move with speed in an increasingly competitive environment.

According to Bajaj, the company’s sustained growth has been driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence and organisational alignment towards common goals.

Five principles for future leaders
Bajaj advised graduating students to build their careers around five enduring principles: improve, excel, align, develop and adapt.

He described adaptability as the defining leadership trait in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and rapid technological change, saying future leaders must remain agile while continuously learning and innovating.

Bajaj Auto has been expanding its electric mobility portfolio across two- and three-wheelers as competition intensifies in India’s fast-growing EV market, where established manufacturers and new-age startups are investing aggressively to capture market share.
