Trontek Electronics, an Indian energy technology company, is entering the battery energy storage systems (BESS) market with a portfolio spanning residential, commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications, targeting annual manufacturing capacity of 12 GWh by 2028.
The expansion marks a strategic shift for the company, which brings more than two decades of experience in battery technology, electric mobility, charging and energy solutions.
Its new Made-in-India portfolio ranges from 215 kWh commercial and industrial systems to utility-scale installations of 5 MWh, positioning the company to address energy storage requirements across multiple segments.
The capacity target signals Trontek’s ambition to expand beyond its existing battery and mobility businesses and establish energy storage as a significant growth driver.
Portfolio targets homes, industries and utilities
Trontek’s BESS portfolio is designed to cater to applications with varying energy storage requirements, from residential energy management to large-scale renewable energy integration.
For residential and distributed energy applications, the company is offering modular storage solutions intended to improve renewable energy utilisation, energy management and power resilience.
In the commercial and industrial segment, its 215 kWh-class systems target hotels, offices and small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises. These installations are designed to help businesses manage electricity demand, optimise energy consumption and improve power reliability.
For larger facilities, including factories, warehouses, hospitals and industrial campuses, Trontek is offering 418 kWh-class systems.
At the utility and grid level, its 5 MWh systems are designed for applications such as industrial parks, utilities and large solar-plus-storage projects, supporting renewable energy integration and greater flexibility in electricity supply.
The portfolio is intended to allow Trontek to serve customers across the energy ecosystem rather than concentrate on a single application or market segment.
Renewable energy transition creates storage opportunities
The expansion comes as battery storage gains importance in India’s efforts to integrate renewable energy into its electricity system.
Solar and wind power generation can fluctuate depending on weather conditions and the time of day. Battery energy storage systems can help address this variability by storing electricity when it is available and releasing it when required.
For commercial and industrial consumers, storage systems can help manage peak demand and improve the utilisation of electricity. At the grid level, they can support renewable energy integration and provide greater flexibility in balancing electricity supply and demand.
Trontek Founder and CEO Samrath S. Kochar said the next phase of the energy transition would depend not only on generating more electricity but also on making energy more intelligent, flexible and accessible.
He said battery energy storage represented the next stage of Trontek’s two-decade journey in battery and energy technology, extending its capabilities from powering individual applications to supporting energy systems at scale.
Kochar added that India had an opportunity to develop globally competitive energy storage capabilities, with Trontek aiming to contribute to that effort through domestic technology and manufacturing.
12 GWh capacity target marks strategic expansion
Trontek’s target of reaching 12 GWh in annual BESS manufacturing capacity by 2028 is central to its expansion strategy.
Achieving this scale would position the company to pursue opportunities across commercial and industrial storage as well as utility-scale projects, although the company has not disclosed the investment required to meet the target, the proposed manufacturing locations or an interim capacity schedule.
The planned expansion also reflects the company’s intention to build on its existing expertise in battery systems and apply it to larger energy storage installations.
Trontek is engaging with customers across residential, commercial, industrial and utility applications as it develops its presence in the Indian storage market.
The pace of growth will depend on customer adoption, project execution and the development of manufacturing and system integration capabilities required to serve different applications.
Local engineering and manufacturing at the core
Trontek is placing local engineering and manufacturing at the centre of its BESS strategy, with capabilities spanning battery systems, testing, system integration, technology development and service.
The company aims to develop solutions suited to India’s varied operating environments and the requirements of different customer segments.
Its broader strategy is to evolve from a battery technology and manufacturing business into a more diversified energy technology company, with energy storage complementing its electric mobility, charging and other energy businesses.
As renewable energy deployment, electrification and electricity infrastructure increasingly converge, battery storage is expected to play an important role in managing energy demand and improving the flexibility of power systems.
Trontek’s planned capacity expansion represents an effort to capture this opportunity through a domestically developed portfolio serving applications from distributed energy management to large-scale grid infrastructure.
