Ashok Leyland recorded total vehicle sales of 24,049 units in September 2026, up 28% from 18,813 units in September 2025, as strong growth in medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) trucks drove the company’s performance.
Including exports, the company’s September sales increased by 5,236 units year-on-year. The cumulative April-September sales rose 22% to 1,13,440 units from 93,354 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
M&HCV trucks lead September growth
M&HCV trucks emerged as the strongest growth segment in September. Domestic sales increased 44% to 12,724 units from 8,862 units, an increase of 3,862 vehicles.
On a cumulative basis, domestic M&HCV truck sales rose 33% to 55,669 units from 41,741 units, an increase of 13,928 vehicles.
Including exports, M&HCV truck sales also rose 44% to 13,244 units from 9,208 units in September 2025. This represents an increase of 4,036 units.
For April-September, combined M&HCV truck sales including exports increased 34% to 57,755 units from 42,995 units, a gain of 14,760 vehicles.
M&HCV bus sales rise in September but remain lower cumulatively
Domestic M&HCV bus sales increased 24% in September to 2,022 units from 1,637 units, adding 385 vehicles.
However, the cumulative domestic performance remained lower, with sales declining 6% to 9,963 units from 10,555 units, a reduction of 592 vehicles.
Including exports, M&HCV bus sales increased 13% to 2,944 units in September from 2,600 units, a gain of 344 vehicles.
The cumulative combined sales, however, fell 12% to 13,846 units from 15,794 units, a decline of 1,948 vehicles.
Total M&HCV sales jump 37%
The combined M&HCV segment recorded domestic sales of 14,746 units in September 2026, compared with 10,499 units a year earlier. This represents a 40% increase, or 4,247 additional vehicles.
For the first six months of FY27, domestic M&HCV sales rose 26% to 65,632 units from 52,296 units, an increase of 13,336 vehicles.
Including exports, total M&HCV sales increased 37% to 16,188 units in September from 11,808 units, a gain of 4,380 vehicles.
Cumulative M&HCV sales including exports rose 22% to 71,601 units from 58,789 units, an increase of 12,812 vehicles.
LCV sales maintain steady growth
The light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment recorded domestic sales of 7,411 units in September, up 10% from 6,710 units in September 2025. The increase stood at 701 vehicles.
Cumulative domestic LCV sales rose 21% to 40,245 units from 33,263 units, adding 6,982 vehicles.
Including exports, LCV sales increased 12% to 7,861 units from 7,005 units in September, a gain of 856 vehicles.
Cumulative LCV sales including exports rose 21% to 41,839 units from 34,565 units, an increase of 7,274 vehicles.
Overall sales gain 5,236 units in September
Ashok Leyland’s domestic total vehicle sales stood at 22,157 units in September 2026, compared with 17,209 units in September 2025, marking a 29% increase and a gain of 4,948 vehicles.
Cumulative domestic sales increased 24% to 1,05,877 units from 85,559 units, an increase of 20,318 vehicles.
Including exports, total vehicle sales increased 28% to 24,049 units from 18,813 units, representing an increase of 5,236 vehicles.
For April-September, total sales including exports rose 22% to 1,13,440 units from 93,354 units, adding 20,086 vehicles.
The September numbers therefore point to a broad-based increase led by M&HCV trucks, with LCVs also maintaining double-digit growth. The key offset was the decline in cumulative M&HCV bus volumes, which remained below the year-ago level despite the segment’s growth during September.
