Prudential HCL Health Insurance Ltd (Prudential Health India), a standalone health insurance company backed by Prudential plc and the HCL Group, has commenced business operations in India, marking its entry into the country’s rapidly expanding health insurance market.

The company received its Certificate of Registration on July 1, 2026, enabling it to begin offering health insurance solutions in India. The company said it aims to redefine health insurance through customer-first innovation, AI-powered experiences and solutions tailored to the evolving healthcare needs of Indian families.

India’s health insurance market recorded gross written premiums of approximately $16 billion in FY2026, according to the company. Prudential Health India is seeking to tap the growth opportunity by combining insurance expertise with technology-enabled customer engagement.

As part of its launch strategy, the insurer will provide customers access to a network of more than 12,000 hospitals. Its omnichannel model combines personalised advice through an agency network with an AI-enabled direct-to-consumer (D2C) platform.

The company said its digitally enabled services are designed to simplify the process of selecting health insurance cover, managing policies and accessing assistance when required.

Focus on customer experience

Prudential plc Regional CEO, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Africa; Group Agency and Health, Naveen Tahilyani said India is a strategically important market for Prudential, supported by strong macroeconomic fundamentals, rising healthcare demand and significant scope for innovation in customer experience.

“India is a strategically important market for Prudential, with strong macroeconomic fundamentals, rising demand for healthcare, and significant headroom for innovation in customer experience,” Tahilyani said.

He said Prudential Health India is being built as a differentiated health insurance business focused on delivering a simpler, more accessible and seamless customer experience.

The venture combines Prudential’s insurance and health capabilities with HCL Group’s technology and healthcare expertise, with the aim of helping more Indian families navigate their healthcare journey.

Prudential Health India MD & CEO Designate,  Amit Dave, said the company intends to go beyond the traditional role of an insurer by supporting customers before, during and after a health-related event.

“We are committed to building insurance solutions that safeguard people against unforeseen health risks and ensure they are never alone in critical health moments,” Dave said.

He added that the company would focus on intelligent and proactive support alongside appropriate insurance solutions, while contributing to the Indian government’s vision of “Insurance for All by 2047”.
