Visakhapatnam is poised to emerge as one of India’s largest digital infrastructure hubs, with its expanding data centre ecosystem expected to generate over 51,800 jobs and spur demand for 2.33 crore sq. ft. of residential real estate, according to a new Square Yards report titled How India’s Data Centre Revolution Is Rewriting Real Estate.
Employment generation
The report estimates that proposed data centre projects in the city will create around 51,840 jobs, comprising 3,240 direct jobs and another 48,600 jobs across allied sectors, including construction, electrical works, logistics, warehousing, transportation, hospitality, retail, maintenance and other support services.
Multiplier effect on the economy
According to the report, the impact of data centre investments will extend well beyond the campuses themselves. The projects are expected to catalyse a broader ecosystem of businesses and services by attracting investments in power infrastructure, fibre connectivity, utilities, logistics and commercial real estate. This multiplier effect is likely to create new employment opportunities while accelerating economic activity across the region.
Residential and commercial real estate demand
The report projects that the resulting economic expansion will drive demand for 2.33 crore sq. ft. of residential real estate in and around Visakhapatnam as professionals relocate to the city and businesses expand to support the growing digital economy. Commercial office space, warehouses, retail centres and civic infrastructure are also expected to witness significant growth.
Data centres reshaping urban growth
Square Yards said data centres are emerging as a key catalyst for India’s next phase of urban development. By attracting large-scale investments and fostering a robust ecosystem of ancillary industries, they have the potential to reshape local economies and transform surrounding regions.
Visakhapatnam’s growth prospects
With several marquee global investments already announced for Visakhapatnam, the report said the city is well positioned to spearhead Andhra Pradesh’s next phase of infrastructure-led growth, employment generation and real estate development, reinforcing its emergence as a major digital infrastructure destination.
