The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has strengthened its presence in Sri Lanka with the signing of a Taj hotel in Weligama. The greenfield development will comprise 220 keys, including 80 luxury apartments, further reinforcing IHCL’s strategic expansion across key leisure destinations in the region.
Located in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, Taj Weligama will be a beachfront resort offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. The hotel will feature a comprehensive culinary portfolio, including an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a beach bar and grill, a bar and lounge, and a deli, designed to deliver a distinctive coastal dining experience.
Commenting on the signing, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & CEO, IHCL, said, “Weligama is emerging as one of Sri Lanka’s most promising coastal destinations, driven by the growing popularity of surfing, wellness and nature-led travel. The resort will offer Taj’s signature J Wellness Circle, providing holistic wellness experiences, along with a kids’ playroom, entertainment zone, state-of-the-art gym and swimming pool. For meetings, events and social gatherings, the hotel will feature a banquet hall and convention facilities spanning over 9,000 sq ft, complemented by meeting rooms and expansive outdoor lawns.
