Tata.ev has rolled out the refreshed avatar of its popular Punch.ev, positioning it as a catalyst for the next phase of mass electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India. Priced at an introductory ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the new Punch.ev narrows the price gap with entry-level internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, bringing EV ownership closer to on-road parity in the small car segment.
The launch reflects Tata’s strategy to address the core barriers that have historically limited mainstream EV uptake, affordability, range confidence, charging convenience and battery assurance, while positioning the Punch.ev as not just a first EV, but potentially a household’s primary car.
Flexible Ownership With Battery-as-a-Service
In a significant move to enhance affordability, Tata.ev is offering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model starting at ₹6.49 lakh, with a battery subscription priced at ₹2.6 per kilometre. The option provides customers with an alternative financing structure, lowering upfront acquisition costs and making EV adoption more accessible to first-time buyers.
Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said the new Punch.ev aims to make electric mobility “truly accessible, practical and worry-free for every household,” highlighting its real-world range, fast-charging capability and lifetime high-voltage (HV) battery warranty.
Enhanced Range and Performance
The updated Punch.ev features a larger 40 kWh LFP prismatic cell battery pack delivering a claimed real-world C75 range of 355 km and an ARAI-certified range of 468 km. A 30 kWh battery pack option will also be available, broadening the vehicle’s appeal across usage needs and budgets.
The improved range is designed to support daily city commutes as well as short intercity drives with fewer charging stops. Fast-charging capability enables the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes. Additionally, a 15-minute top-up can add up to 135 km of real-world range, roughly the duration of a short highway break.
Crucially, the vehicle comes with a lifetime HV battery warranty covering unlimited kilometres, addressing one of the most significant concerns among first-time EV buyers.
Expanding Charging Backbone
The launch is backed by an expanding charging ecosystem. Tata.ev’s network spans over 2.3 lakh charging points across 1,500 cities, including home, community and public chargers. The company has aggregated more than 30,000 public chargers through partnerships with over 30 charge point operators.
Further strengthening highway infrastructure, the company has established 450 charging points across 130 mega charging hubs on 80 highways, with plans to expand this to 800 charging points by FY26.
