NBCC Holds Talks With Seychelles VP On 139-Acre Island Infra Project

CW Bureau ·

State-owned construction major NBCC (India) Ltd has initiated high-level discussions with a delegation from the Seychelles, led by Vice President Sebastien Pillay, on potential collaboration for large-scale island infrastructure development.

The talks centred on a proposed integrated development spanning around 139 acres on an island in Seychelles.

NBCC made detailed presentations outlining a master plan that envisages affordable social housing, leisure and hospitality facilities, premium villas, a sports arena, and supporting social infrastructure.

The engagement builds on earlier deliberations between NBCC Chairman and Managing Director K. P. Mahadevaswamy and senior officials of the Seychelles government during his visit to the island nation in January this year.

As part of the discussions, NBCC showcased its international project execution capabilities, highlighting the successful completion of a 2,000-unit social housing project at Hulhumale in the Maldives. The company emphasised the role played by Indian skilled workforce and construction materials in timely delivery of that project.

Mahadevaswamy reiterated NBCC’s commitment to delivering sustainable and high-quality infrastructure solutions and expressed confidence that cooperation with Seychelles could be expanded across multiple sectors.

NBCC is already executing key projects in Seychelles, including the construction of the Indian Chancery Building, a Cultural Centre, and residential units. These projects are part of India’s broader development partnership with the island nation and reflect deepening bilateral ties.

The visit of Vice President Pillay is seen as reinforcing the longstanding relationship between India and Seychelles and signalling a shared focus on infrastructure-led development. If the proposed island project moves forward, it could mark a significant expansion of NBCC’s overseas portfolio and further strengthen India’s development footprint in the Indian Ocean region.
