Škoda Auto Volkswagen India has commenced production of the new Kushaq at its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. The start of production signals India’s growing role within the global manufacturing ecosystem of Škoda Auto, with the Kushaq continuing to serve as a cornerstone of the company’s India 2.0 programme. Developed specifically for Indian conditions and customer preferences, the SUV was the first product under the strategy and has since emerged as a key growth driver for the brand.
Strengthening India’s Global Manufacturing Role
Andreas Dick, board member for production and logistics at Škoda Auto, said the Kushaq holds special significance as the first car developed specifically for a market outside Europe through close collaboration between India and the Czech Republic.
“The start of production of the new Kushaq in Pune in such a short span of time highlights how strongly India is integrated into our global manufacturing ecosystem. Robust production quality and continuous process improvements allow us to deliver feature-packed vehicles that meet domestic expectations and international standards,” he said, adding that India is evolving into both a key growth market and an increasingly important export base.
Built with high levels of localisation, the Kushaq has been instrumental in reducing ownership costs and improving turnaround times, while maintaining European driving dynamics and safety benchmarks.
Enhanced Features, Broader Appeal
Piyush Arora, MD & CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, described the new Kushaq as an evolution of a proven product that has resonated strongly with Indian buyers.
“The new Kushaq continues to be a key pillar in our mission to bring European engineering excellence within reach of Indian families. Based on customer feedback, we have introduced several premium features including a panoramic sunroof, rear-seat massage function, and a new 8-speed automatic transmission option, making it an even more compelling offering,” he said.
The SUV blends refined driving dynamics, advanced equipment, passenger comfort and uncompromising safety, values that have helped the model carve out a strong position in India’s competitive mid-size SUV segment.
A Growth Catalyst
Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Škoda Auto India, noted that the Kushaq has been a transformative product for the brand in India, anchoring its turnaround and expansion strategy.
“As our first INDIA 2.0 model, it marked the beginning of a new chapter combining high localisation, world-class manufacturing in Pune, and a deep understanding of Indian customers. With the new Kushaq, we are building on that foundation while continuing our focus on network expansion and a service-first approach,” he said.
The Kushaq has played a pivotal role in the Group’s growth trajectory, contributing to record sales of 117,000 units in 2025. Following its global premiere in January 2026, deliveries of the new Kushaq are set to begin in March, backed by strong pre-booking momentum.
