SDHI To Complete Five OSVs For San Maritime At Pipavav Shipyard

CW Bureau ·

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd (SDHI) will complete five Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs) for Kakinada-based San Maritime India Pvt. Ltd.

San Maritime has commenced docking of the vessels at SDHI’s Pipavav shipyard for completion under Indian Register of Shipping (IR) Class. Once completed, the vessels will cater to the growing requirements of the offshore energy industry.

The completion of the five OSVs will strengthen Indian-flag tonnage and enhance offshore capabilities, while generating employment in the maritime sector. The project aligns with India’s vision of promoting indigenous, self-reliant shipbuilding through targeted financial assistance and incentive schemes.

The initiative is also expected to support local vendors and service providers within the shipbuilding ecosystem.

The hulls were originally part of the assets acquired by SDHI under the NCLT-approved resolution plan for Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited (RNEL). These hulls were subsequently acquired by San Maritime from SDHI for completion.

Although construction of the vessels began under the previous management, the revived shipyard will now complete them, underscoring its operational readiness and execution capabilities under the new leadership.

Located on India’s west coast, the Pipavav facility boasts extensive shipbuilding infrastructure, including the country’s largest dry dock (662m x 65m), a wet basin (340m x 60m), and a 1.2-km dedicated waterfront for berthing, docking and launching vessels. The yard also has an annual fabrication capacity of 164,000 tonnes.

Formerly known as Reliance Naval and Engineering Ltd, SDHI is a leading Indian shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company.
