JSW Motors, the new energy vehicle arm of the JSW Group, is building a future-ready manufacturing workforce by signing a memorandum of understanding with Tata Indian Institute of Skills (Tata IIS). The partnership is aimed at creating a structured technical talent pipeline ahead of the commissioning of JSW Motors’ greenfield manufacturing plant at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
Building Skills Ahead of Scale
As JSW Motors prepares to operationalise its manufacturing facility, the collaboration marks the first milestone in a broader ambition: to create an industry-leading skilling ecosystem that supports the entire manufacturing value chain.
The programme will feature a JSW Motors-specific curriculum co-developed with Tata IIS, covering critical competencies such as EV systems, automation, welding, CNC operations, battery systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Importantly, JSW Motors will retain hiring control and curriculum validation rights, ensuring the training remains tightly aligned with its evolving production requirements and plant ramp-up timelines.
JSW Motors chief HR officer Rupam Singh said:“At JSW Motors, skilling is not an HR function, it is a business imperative. As we build our manufacturing operations, we need people who are ready from Day One. The Tata IIS partnership gives us structured capability, relevant curriculum, and the execution rigour aligned to our timelines. This is a deliberate bridge as we work towards building our own world-class training academy.”
Strategic Institutional Partnership
Tata IIS was selected following a competitive evaluation of leading skilling institutions across India. The institute stood out for its industry-grade infrastructure, strong OEM engagement record, and application-based training methodology—attributes well suited to the demands of modern EV manufacturing.
The collaboration also builds on the broader relationship between Tata IIS and the JSW Group through Group-level skilling initiatives supported by the JSW Foundation.
Tata Indian Institute of Skills CEO designate Venguswamy Ramaswamy said: “At Tata IIS, our mission is to solve the nation’s skill challenges by creating a next generation workforce that is not just job-ready, but future-ready. By designing bespoke programmes in advanced manufacturing, we are equipping India’s youth with high-precision skills required to drive the next generation of automotive excellence while ensuring a robust and consistent talent pipeline for industry partners.”
Beyond the Plant Floor
JSW Motors’ skilling vision extends well beyond immediate plant requirements. The company’s long-term roadmap includes structured capability development for supplier and vendor partners, dealer networks, and even end customers—reflecting its commitment to building a fully EV-ready ecosystem.
JSW Motors plans to establish a dedicated in-house training academy anchored to advanced manufacturing and future mobility technologies. The initiative positions the company not just as a manufacturer of new energy vehicles, but as a capability leader aligned with India’s evolving automotive transformation.
