Tejas Networks Unveils Terabit-Scale Optical Transport Platform

CW Bureau ·

Tejas Networks has introduced its next-generation WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical transport platform, purpose-built to address the accelerating global demand for terabit-scale data centre interconnections. The product, branded TJ1600-D3, was unveiled by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Communications, at the prestigious Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.

Built for the AI-Driven Data Era

With hyperscale data centres, AI compute clusters and edge AI nodes expanding rapidly, network traffic architectures are undergoing a fundamental transformation. Tejas Networks chief operating officer and executive director Arnob Roy said traffic patterns have shifted dramatically as webscalers, carriers and cloud providers scale distributed infrastructure.
He noted that customers increasingly require compact, energy-efficient and hyper-scalable solutions capable of reliably transporting massive volumes of data across geographically dispersed facilities. The TJ1600-D3, he added, is designed as a future-ready offering to meet this evolving connectivity requirement.

Extreme Capacity, High Efficiency

Powered by the latest digital signal processors (DSPs) and advanced chipsets, the TJ1600-D3 is engineered for operators and enterprises demanding extreme capacity, carrier-grade reliability and best-in-class energy efficiency.

Key highlights include:

• Flexible line rates from 400G to 1.2T per wavelength
• Scaling up to 51.2 Tbps of shelf capacity
• Support for performance-optimized and power-optimized traffic sleds
• Redundant controllers, fans and power modules
• Universal AC/DC power compatibility
• Compact 3-RU form factor for optimized space utilisation
The platform’s architecture is designed to deliver resilient, high-capacity services while maintaining operational efficiency — a critical requirement as data centre interconnect (DCI) networks scale to handle AI and cloud-driven workloads.

Global Footprint, Tata Group Backing

Tejas Networks designs and manufactures high-performance wireline and wireless networking products for telecom service providers, internet service providers, utilities, defence and government entities across more than 75 countries.
The company is part of the Tata Group, with Panatone Finvest Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, as its majority shareholder. The launch at MWC 2026 positions Tejas Networks to capitalise on the next wave of global investments in AI infrastructure, hyperscale data centres and next-generation optical transport networks
