In a move aimed at accelerating electric two-wheeler adoption, Ultraviolette Automotive has unveiled ‘Battery Flex’, a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) programme that significantly lowers the upfront cost of owning its performance electric motorcycle, the X-47.
Launched in partnership with Ecofy, a green-focused NBFC, the initiative allows customers to purchase the X-47 crossover at a starting price of ₹1.49 lakh, nearly 40% lower than its earlier price point, while subscribing to the battery at a monthly fee beginning at ₹2,499.
Redefining EV Ownership Economics
Under the Battery Flex model, customers pay for the motorcycle chassis upfront and opt for a structured battery subscription plan. At the end of the subscription tenure, battery ownership transfers to the customer at no additional cost, along with a five-year warranty on the battery pack.
The structure fundamentally reworks the economics of electric motorcycle ownership. With operating costs pegged at levels comparable to, or even lower than average monthly petrol expenses, Ultraviolette is positioning the X-47 not merely as a performance upgrade but as a financially compelling alternative to similarly powered internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles.
CEO and co-founder Narayan Subramaniam said the company has effectively moved from price parity with ICE motorcycles at ₹2.5 lakh to a far more accessible ₹1.5 lakh entry point. According to him, the new pricing opens the door to superior performance and technology at a cost structure that makes electric mobility more practical for everyday riders.
Financing Meets Clean Mobility
The collaboration with Ecofy underlines a larger trend in India’s EV ecosystem, the growing role of specialised climate-focused financiers in unlocking adoption. By separating the most expensive EV component-the battery- from the chassis purchase, the model addresses one of the key psychological and financial barriers to EV adoption: high upfront cost.
Battery technology remains central to Ultraviolette’s product philosophy. CTO and co-founder Niraj Rajmohan emphasised that years of R&D have gone into ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and longevity. Battery Flex, he said, extends that technological advantage to customers through a more adaptable ownership structure.
Strategic Timing After X-47 Success
The announcement follows strong market reception to the X-47, a crossover positioned at the intersection of performance motorcycling and advanced electric mobility. By layering an innovative financing model onto an already premium technology platform, Ultraviolette is widening its addressable market without diluting brand positioning.
Enrolments for Battery Flex begin March 5, 2026, marking what the company describes as a transformative chapter in its journey to democratise advanced mobility.
