Solar Defence Performs Bhoomi Puja On UAV, Robotics Facility In Nagpur

Solar Industries India Ltd has announced a major milestone in its defence sector expansion with the commencement of construction of a Robotics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufacturing facility in Nagpur, through its wholly owned subsidiary Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd.

The Bhoomi Puja for the new facility was performed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on March 8, 2026, in the presence of Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at the MIHAN Special Economic Zone in Nagpur.

The proposed facility marks a significant step in the company’s expansion into advanced defence technologies, autonomous systems and robotics-enabled solutions.

It will focus on the development and manufacture of UAVs, robotics platforms and next-generation defence technologies aimed at strengthening indigenous capabilities.

The management said the initiative aligns with the country’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing and technological advancement.

Solar Defence also announced investments of over ₹12,800 crore in projects related to manufacturing robots, UAVs of different sizes and types, and long-range missiles.

Group Chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal said during a media interaction that the new facility will manufacture UAVs with a capacity of 10,000 units per year, with ranges from 15 km to 1,000 km.

In the first phase, the facility will focus on key product areas for commercial and strategic defence applications, including advanced AI-powered UAVs and Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones.
