Bharat Forge has partnered with Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS to set up a landing gear components machining facility in Pune, marking a significant step forward for India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
The new facility, located in Mundhwa, Pune, has been developed by Bharat Forge’s aerospace division in collaboration with the France-based aerospace systems supplier. The plant integrates advanced machining centres dedicated to high-precision landing gear components, enabling the company to meet stringent global aerospace manufacturing standards.
With this development, Bharat Forge becomes one of the first companies in India to operate OEM-approved landing gear component machining capabilities at scale, strengthening the country’s position in the global aerospace supply chain.
Boost To India’s Aerospace Manufacturing Ecosystem
The new facility is expected to support both civil and defence aviation programs worldwide. By adding high-precision machining capabilities for landing gear components, the partnership aims to deepen India’s footprint in the highly specialised aerospace manufacturing segment.
Bharat Forge vice chairman and joint MD Amit Kalyani said the development as a milestone in the company’s aerospace journey. He noted that the facility reflects Bharat Forge’s growing ability to deliver high-value aerospace components and strengthen long-term partnerships with global aerospace OEMs.
Expanding Aerospace Portfolio
The company now offers a full-stack aerospace manufacturing portfolio covering aero-engine components, airframe structures and landing gear sub-systems. Its product portfolio includes turbine and compressor components, forged rings, shafts, discs, and structural aerospace elements used in both civil and military aircraft. In addition, the company is also setting up an advanced aerospace ring mill in India to manufacture high-value forged rings for global aero-engine programs.
Strategic Partnership With Liebherr
Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS MD & chief operating officer Martin Wandel said the collaboration reflects the growing technological capabilities of Indian manufacturing partners. He highlighted that the partnership will create a state-of-the-art facility tailored to the requirements of the global aerospace industry, while supporting innovation and performance excellence for customers worldwide.
Headquartered in Toulouse, Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS is a major supplier of onboard systems and solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries. Its product portfolio includes environmental control systems, flight control and actuation systems, landing gear solutions, thermal management systems, and onboard electronics for civil and defence aircraft.
Strengthening India’s Global Aerospace Role
The Bharat Forge–Liebherr collaboration underlines India’s growing ambitions to become a global aerospace manufacturing hub. With increasing localisation of high-value components and deeper integration with global OEM supply chains, Indian aerospace manufacturing is moving up the value ladder.
The new facility in Pune not only enhances Bharat Forge’s capabilities but also highlights the expanding role of Indian companies in supporting global aircraft production and next-generation aviation technologies.
