India’s public transportation network is set to receive a significant boost as Tata Motors, the country’s largest commercial vehicle maker, has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India.
The large-scale order win reinforces the company’s leadership in the commercial passenger vehicle segment and highlights the trust placed in its mass mobility solutions.
The orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the government’s procurement framework. Deployments will take place in phases, in accordance with schedules agreed upon with the respective state transport corporations.

The company has received orders from several prominent transport bodies, including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, Haryana Roadways, and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.
Together, these orders underline Tata Motors’ pivotal role in supporting the next phase of India’s mass mobility transformation.

The orders span a broad portfolio of Tata Motors passenger mobility platforms, including Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and chassis platforms such as Tata LPO 1618, Tata LPO 1622, and Tata LPO 1822.
These vehicles are configured to support a wide range of public transport needs, including intercity routes, long-haul services and intra-city passenger movement. Designed for reliability, passenger comfort and efficient operating economics, the buses are engineered to perform across diverse terrains and operational conditions.
