Ashwin Muthiah-led Tamilnadu Petroproducts Ltd (TPL) has temporarily shut down its Heavy Chemicals Division plant due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
TPL, in a regulatory filing, said the disruption constitutes a force majeure event as it is beyond its control, adding that the financial impact cannot be quantified at this stage. It is taking necessary steps to resume operations.
In a related development, Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd announced that manufacturing operations on one of its two high-pressure moulding lines at its Solapur plant have been temporarily affected from March 17, following disruptions in the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
The disruption has been linked to global energy supply chain issues arising from the Middle East conflict.
The company said it is closely monitoring the situation and is exploring alternate sources of fuel and operational adjustments to minimise the impact of the disruption.
TPL is a Chennai-based petrochemical company incorporated in 1984 and promoted by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation along with Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC).
The company manufactures commodity and industrial intermediate chemicals such as linear alkyl benzene (LAB), caustic soda, chlorine and propylene oxide, which are widely used in detergents, cleaning products, textiles, pharma and and other industrial applications.
Its manufacturing facilities are located in Manali, near Chennai, and it is a key domestic supplier of inputs to the FMCG and chemical industries.
Kirloskar Ferrous, part of the Kirloskar Group, is a leading manufacturer of pig iron and iron castings, catering primarily to the automotive, tractor and engineering sectors.
