Ola Electric has announced a sharp price cut of ₹60,000 for its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh, marking a significant push to make long-range electric mobility more accessible.
The model, powered by the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell, will now be priced at ₹1,29,999, down from ₹1,89,999.
Cost efficiencies drive price reduction
The price revision has been enabled by rapid economies of scale at Ola Electric’s Gigafactory and deep vertical integration of its battery technology.
As production of the 4680 Bharat Cell ramps up, the company has achieved meaningful cost efficiencies, allowing it to pass on the benefits directly to customers. This reflects Ola Electric’s broader strategy of leveraging in-house innovation to drive affordability in the EV segment.
Shift to limited-time sales model
In a strategic shift, Ola Electric will transition from open sales of the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh to a limited purchase window model.
Under this approach, the motorcycle will be made available in time-bound slots and in limited quantities, aligned with production capacity. The first purchase window is scheduled for April 3, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with subsequent windows to be announced periodically.
Strong demand outpaces supply
The Roadster 9.1 kWh, positioned as Ola Electric’s highest-performance electric motorcycle with a claimed range of up to 500 km, has witnessed overwhelming demand, significantly exceeding current supply capacity.
According to the company, demand surged more than fivefold during its #EndICEAge campaign, underscoring growing consumer interest in high-performance electric two-wheelers.
Scaling battery ecosystem
Ola Electric has been aggressively scaling production of its 4680 Bharat Cell, designed and manufactured in India.
The company is also expanding its Gigafactory capacity towards 6 GWh, strengthening its domestic battery ecosystem and reinforcing its commitment to reducing dependence on imports while driving down costs through vertical integration.
Business momentum rebounds
The announcement follows a strong rebound in Ola Electric’s business performance in March. The company recorded over 150% month-on-month growth in registrations, reaching 10,117 units.
Daily orders also crossed 1,000 units in the final week of the month, indicating a sharp recovery in demand. Market share saw a V-shaped recovery, supported by improvements in service operations and an enhanced ownership experience.
