Capital Trust Ltd (CTL), a listed NBFC with a strong foothold in MSME lending, has announced its strategic foray into the gold loan segment, positioning itself as a new-age challenger to legacy players.
Built ground-up for new regulatory regime
As a new entrant, CTL has built its gold loan operations from the ground up in alignment with the latest RBI guidelines, adopting a forward-looking, compliance-first approach from inception.
This enables the company to operate on a modern, technology-driven and regulatory-aligned framework, even as several incumbent players continue to transition to the revised regulatory environment.
Strategic shift to secured lending
Yogen Khosla, Chairman and Managing Director, said the move marks a strategic pivot towards a more resilient lending model.
“Our entry into secured lending through the gold loan business represents a strategic shift towards building a safer, more resilient and capital-efficient lending model. Secured lending will play a key role in strengthening our balance sheet, improving asset quality and creating a stable, sustainable growth platform,” he said.
Tech-driven branch model with enhanced security
CTL has made significant investments in modern branch infrastructure, technology and security systems, deploying an advanced eight-layer security architecture across its gold loan outlets.
The branches operate on a fully app-based, paperless model with minimal manual intervention and are centrally monitored from the head office. This format marks a departure from traditional cage-style gold loan branches, with a focus on improved customer experience, safety, operational efficiency and risk control.
Expansion underway across NCR
As part of its rollout strategy, the company has opened its fourth gold loan branch, including its second in Gurgaon. CTL plans to scale its presence across the Delhi-NCR region in the near term before expanding into other markets.
Co-lending strategy to accelerate growth
Alongside deploying its own balance sheet, CTL has already operationalised a co-lending partnership with an NBFC. The company is also exploring partnerships with banks and financial institutions to accelerate portfolio growth while maintaining capital efficiency and prudent risk management.
Leveraging legacy, building scale
With over four decades of experience in financial services, Capital Trust aims to leverage its strong governance framework, technology-led processes and long-standing customer relationships to build a meaningful and scalable presence in the gold loan segment.
