Jewellery continues to hold a deeply personal place in people’s lives, with natural diamonds emerging as one of its most enduring and meaningful expressions.
Each natural diamond carries a story of love, milestones, heritage and personal triumphs, making it far more than a mere adornment.
Global movement takes shape
Marking this emotional connect, the first-ever World Diamond Day was celebrated on April 8, 2026, bringing together consumers and industry stakeholders to honour the significance of natural diamonds.
The initiative was launched by the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) as a global movement to celebrate the joy, passion and community that natural diamonds inspire.
Beyond their brilliance, diamonds symbolise memories, legacy and the craftsmanship of an industry that transforms raw stones into timeless heirlooms.
Industry-wide participation
As a key industry body, NDC led the celebrations by encouraging participation across the value chain, including artisans, manufacturers, retailers and consumers, to share authentic stories associated with natural diamonds.
The movement gained traction on social media, with participants sharing personal experiences using #WorldDiamondDay and #NaturalDiamonds, turning the occasion into a global narrative.
The initiative saw active participation from leading organisations such as the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Gemological Institute of America (GIA), All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) and the Bharat Diamond Bourse.
Industry partners including Venus Jewel, SRK Exports, HK Exports, KP Sanghvi, Dharmanandan Diamonds, Finestar Jewellery and Diamonds, Shivam Jewels and A S Motiwala also joined the initiative.
Thought leaders amplify narrative
The campaign was further amplified by participation from industry voices such as Richa Goyal Sikri, Archana Thani, Nitya Arora and Arundhati De Sheth, who shared personal perspectives and stories.
A platform for meaningful expression
“World Diamond Day is a platform for people to share what their diamonds truly mean to them. At a time when consumers, especially younger audiences, are looking for more meaningful ways to celebrate, this initiative offers a reason to pause and honour those moments. Natural diamonds are the perfect custodians of our memories. This day is also a reminder of why we do what we do, to bring joy, emotion, and meaning into people’s lives,” Natural Diamond Council, Managing Director, Richa Singh said.
Beyond a celebration
World Diamond Day has emerged as more than a symbolic occasion, serving as a reminder of the emotional value of diamonds, the passion of the industry, and the stories that connect generations.
A natural diamond, the industry maintains, is not merely a product but a timeless heirloom, one that preserves memories and continues to shine with meaning across generations.
