AI At The Helm: TCS Rewires Services Playbook For The Next Growth Cycle

CW Bureau ·

India’s largest IT services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has outlined a structured and evolving approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI), anchored in a two-pronged strategy- helping clients ‘Get ready with AI’ and enabling them to ‘Lead with AI’.

TCS  Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director Aarthi Subramanian in the company’s March quarter earnings call emphasised that while enterprise interest in AI is accelerating, readiness remains a key challenge.

Bridging the AI readiness gap

TCS highlighted that many enterprises lack the foundational infrastructure required to scale AI. To address this, the company is working with clients to modernise legacy systems, build secure and scalable infrastructure, and establish robust data foundations. A significant portion of enterprise technology spend is now being channelled into these areas.

Real-world transformation in action

The company shared multiple examples of its AI-led transformation initiatives. For a European airline, TCS modernised mission-critical crew management systems using Generative AI, reverse-engineering legacy platforms with the support of Google Gemini to build a scalable, future-ready foundation.

Similarly, for a US-based car rental firm, TCS migrated over 20 terabytes of critical data to a modern data platform, decommissioning legacy systems and delivering an estimated $2.5 million in savings, while enabling AI readiness at scale.

From readiness to leadership

Beyond building foundations, TCS is helping enterprises actively deploy AI through its acceleration playbook ‘Innovate with AI, Build with AI, and Scale with AI.’  This framework enables rapid deployment of AI solutions within 12–16 weeks, targeting high-value business problems.

AI moves into the physical world

TCS is also driving adoption of Physical AI in industrial environments. Use cases such as digital twins, computer vision, and quadruped-based systems are improving operational efficiency, throughput, and safety.

In one instance, for an electronics manufacturer, TCS integrated NVIDIA Omniverse-powered digital twins with autonomous inspection systems, enhancing construction accuracy and proactively identifying safety risks.

Reimagining services with ‘Human + AI’

A key pillar of TCS’s strategy is the transformation of its services portfolio through its ‘Human + AI’ service autonomy model. This framework blends human expertise with AI-driven tools to deliver consistent, scalable outcomes across industries.

The approach is designed to address a persistent gap, while enterprises have invested in AI tools, many are yet to realise tangible productivity gains.

Driving productivity gains across industries

TCS demonstrated the impact of its model through multiple client engagements. For a UK-based retailer, the deployment of an AI engineering framework across the software lifecycle reduced deployment cycle time by around 40%.

In the business process services segment, AI adoption is accelerating rapidly. For a steel company, the deployment of AI agents in procurement reduced the order-to-invoice cycle from 28 days to under 10 days, showcasing significant efficiency gains.

Investing in partnerships and ecosystem

TCS continues to deepen its AI ecosystem through partnerships across hyperscalers, enterprise platforms, and AI-native firms. In the March quarter, the company expanded collaborations with ServiceNow, Google Cloud, and ABB.

A notable partnership with OpenAI includes deploying ChatGPT Enterprise for Tata Group employees, building industry-specific AI agents, launching joint go-to-market initiatives, and creating advanced AI infrastructure.

AI at the core of growth strategy

The company noted that its next-generation services delivered strong growth in FY26, supported by sustained investments in AI, talent, and innovation. As enterprises navigate the complexities of AI adoption, TCS is positioning itself as both an enabler of readiness and a driver of scaled AI-led transformation.
