Electric 3-Wheelers To Get A Stylish Boost With TVS Motor-Hyundai Pact

Sajan C Kumar ·

Soon, stylish and technologically advanced electric three-wheelers will be criss-crossing Indian roads, thanks to the newly forged collaboration between TVS Motor and Hyundai. These innovative vehicles will combine Hyundai’s design strengths with TVS Motor’s engineering prowess in manufacturing.

A structured play on product development and market reach
Under the arrangement, Hyundai Motor will lead the concept design of the products, while both companies will jointly undertake development phases aligned to their respective strengths. TVS Motor will co-develop the products using its advanced electric platform, three-wheeler engineering expertise, and deep understanding of local market needs.

TVS Motor will hold the worldwide exclusive rights to manufacture the products and will also lead sales and distribution in India and select global markets. Hyundai Motor, in turn, will have exclusive rights for sales and distribution in Korea and other agreed territories. The agreement also outlines a royalty and compensation structure linked to product sales across markets.

Positioning for scalable and sustainable EV solutions
The partnership is designed to deliver modern, efficient, and sustainable electric mobility solutions, with a clear focus on scalability. TVS Motor’s manufacturing operations in India will cater to domestic demand while also serving as a base for future exports, reinforcing India’s role in global EV supply chains.

TVS Motor’s partnership playbook: From Suzuki To BMW Motorrad
This collaboration adds to TVS Motor’s long history of strategic partnerships. The company previously operated as a joint venture with Suzuki from 1987 to 2001 under TVS-Suzuki, producing iconic models such as the Supra, Shogun, and Shaolin. Following the end of that partnership, both companies evolved into independent entities, TVS Motor Company and Suzuki Motorcycle India, each carving out distinct growth paths.

More recently, TVS Motor has strengthened its global positioning through its partnership with BMW Motorrad, under which it develops and manufactures premium and electric motorcycles. This alliance has helped TVS Motor move up the value chain, bringing in capabilities in luxury and high-performance segments alongside electric mobility innovation.

A strategic step towards future mobility leadership
Seen in this context, the Hyundai–TVS tie-up is not an isolated move but part of a broader strategy by TVS Motor to collaborate with global leaders across segments. By combining legacy experience, evolving partnerships, and a sharp focus on electric mobility, the company is positioning itself at the centre of the next wave of mobility transformation in India and beyond.
