Hyundai’s Flagship EV IONIQ 5 Gets Smarter, Safer And Longer-Range

CW Bureau ·

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has refreshed its flagship electric SUV, IONIQ 5, with a suite of upgrades that sharpen its performance, extend range, and elevate in-cabin technology and safety, reinforcing its premium EV positioning in India.

Built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the updated IONIQ 5 underlines the company’s push toward smart, sustainable, and customer-centric mobility. The model is priced at ₹55.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

Bigger battery, longer range
At the heart of the upgrade is a larger 84.0 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-certified range of up to 690 km. The extended range addresses one of the biggest EV pain points, range anxiety, while making long-distance electric travel more practical and seamless.

Sharper design, smarter cabin
The new IONIQ 5 gets subtle yet distinct exterior updates, including redesigned front and rear bumpers and new alloy wheels. Inside, Hyundai has enhanced the cabin with a new three-spoke leather steering wheel featuring a four-dot illuminated design, along with a redesigned centre fascia to improve functionality and aesthetics.

Tech-forward, safety-first
Hyundai has also strengthened the SUV’s technology and safety stack. The updated model comes equipped with next-generation connected features and advanced driver assistance systems, including parking collision-avoidance assist (rear) and side parking distance warning, aimed at improving everyday usability and driver confidence.

Key brand in EV journey
HMIL Managing Director & CEO Tarun Garg said the IONIQ 5 has been instrumental in shaping Hyundai’s EV journey globally and in India. He added that the latest upgrades build on that momentum by enhancing range, technology, and convenience, further strengthening its appeal as a future-ready premium electric SUV.

With meaningful upgrades across key parameters, the refreshed IONIQ 5 positions itself as a stronger contender in India’s fast-evolving premium EV segment.
