Interio by Godrej is stepping up its play in Chennai, setting an ambitious target to capture a 40% market share over the next three years. The furniture brand from the Godrej Enterprises Group is also eyeing revenues of ₹45 crore from Chennai and ₹65 crore from Tamil Nadu in FY27, reflecting an expected regional growth of 25%. The move underlines the company’s intent to deepen its presence in one of South India’s most dynamic residential markets.
Revamped store aligns with evolving home needs
Marking this push, the company has launched its revamped store in Chennai, alongside unveiling its ‘Moments That Matter’ (MTM) study. Spanning nearly 6,000 sq. ft., the store is positioned as a one-stop destination for contemporary Indian homes, offering modular, configurable, and personalised furniture across bedroom, living, and dining spaces. The addition of a soft furnishings line further strengthens its portfolio, catering to changing consumer preferences.
Chennai’s residential momentum fuels demand
According to Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business (B2C), Dev Narayan Sarkar, Chennai continues to be a strategically important market, backed by steady residential demand and a robust pipeline of new launches. The city recorded over 5,000 residential unit launches in the last quarter, signalling sustained momentum driven by a stable salaried workforce and ongoing infrastructure development.
Expanding retail and distribution network
Interio has built a strong retail and distribution footprint in Chennai, with 8 showrooms, 45 channel partners, and 250 retailers. This network is complemented by a wider presence across Tamil Nadu, enabling the brand to tap into both urban and emerging demand centres. The company is witnessing consistent traction in categories such as home storage, bedroom and living room furniture, while modular kitchens and mattresses are seeing increasing adoption.
Homes emerge as centres of comfort and connection
Insights from the MTM study highlight a clear shift towards home-centric lifestyles in Southern India. Nearly 95% of respondents reported sleeping best in their own bed, reinforcing the role of homes as primary spaces for rest. Additionally, 86% prefer to unwind at home on Friday evenings, reflecting changing leisure patterns.
Emotional value drives home design trends
The study also points to the growing emotional significance of shared experiences at home, with 93% of respondents valuing time spent with loved ones in the evenings. These findings indicate that homes are evolving beyond functional spaces, increasingly being designed to foster relaxation, connection, and overall well-being, an insight that aligns closely with Interio’s product and retail strategy in the region.
