Tata Motors Rolls Out AMT For Altroz iCNG, Targets CNG Vehicle Segment

CW Bureau ·

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd  (TMPV) has launched the AMT variant of the Tata Altroz iCNG, making it the first and only premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain.

Priced at ₹8.69 lakh, the Altroz iCNG AMT expands Tata Motors’ multi-powertrain strategy by combining CNG efficiency with the convenience of clutch-free driving.

CNG demand drives product expansion
The company said the launch comes amid rapid growth in CNG adoption across India, with CNG penetration rising from 19% in FY25 to 22% in FY26.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivatsa said: “The Altroz has consistently set benchmarks in the premium hatchback segment through its strong focus on design, safety and powertrain choice. With the introduction of AMT in the iCNG line-up, we are addressing a clear and growing customer need for greater convenience in CNG vehicles.”

He added that the new variant strengthens Altroz’s positioning as one of the most versatile offerings in the segment by balancing efficiency, practicality and ease of driving.

Focus on urban driving convenience
The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine producing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm torque in CNG mode. The addition of AMT is aimed at improving urban drivability, especially in heavy traffic conditions.

Tata Motors said the hatchback uses a single advanced ECU for seamless switching between petrol and CNG modes and also offers direct start in CNG mode.

Twin-cylinder technology preserves boot space
The Altroz continues to feature Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder iCNG technology, where the CNG cylinders are placed beneath the luggage compartment.

This setup enables a usable 210-litre boot space even in CNG mode, addressing one of the key limitations associated with conventional CNG vehicles. Petrol and diesel variants continue to offer 345 litres of boot capacity.

Premium styling and connected cabin
The hatchback carries forward the updated Altroz design language with flush door handles, connected LED tail lamps and LED headlamps with DRLs.

Inside, the cabin features executive lounge-style rear seats, a soft-touch dashboard and dual 26.03 cm digital screens for infotainment and instrumentation powered by HARMAN. Ambient lighting and connected car features further enhance the premium appeal.

Safety remains key differentiator
Built on Tata Motors’ ALFA architecture using ultra-high-strength steel, the Altroz continues to hold a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel and CNG variants.

The hatchback comes equipped with six airbags, ESP, ISOFIX mounts and reverse parking sensors as standard. Additional features include a 360-degree HD surround-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps and LED fog lamps.

Altroz strengthens unique market positioning
Since its launch, the Altroz has remained one of the few hatchbacks in India to offer petrol, diesel and CNG powertrains under a single model lineup.

The addition of the iCNG AMT further strengthens its differentiation in the premium hatchback segment as Tata Motors sharpens focus on alternative fuel mobility and feature-led customer offerings.
