Growth Capital: JSW Energy Raises ₹3,150 Cr Via JSW Steel Stake Sale

JSW Energy has divested 2.5 crore equity shares of JSW Steel through a bulk deal on the National Stock Exchange on May 18, 2026, unlocking gross proceeds of ₹3,150 crore.

The company said the transaction is part of a strategic liquidity release aimed at funding future growth initiatives and improving return on capital employed (ROCE).

The shares were sold at an average price of ₹1,260 apiece. Following the transaction, JSW Energy continues to hold 4,50,38,350 equity shares in JSW Steel.

Capital to support growth strategy
JSW Energy said the monetisation of part of its holding in JSW Steel will help release capital for pursuing the company’s growth strategy, while
reinforcing disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for shareholders.

The company is currently accelerating capacity addition across renewable and hydro power projects as part of its long-term expansion roadmap.

Renewable capacity crosses 13.7 GW
JSW Energy has commissioned 250 MW of renewable energy capacity since April 2026, including 130 MW of wind capacity, 69.4 MW of solar capacity and the 50 MW Tidong Hydro Plant.

With these additions, the company’s total installed power generation capacity has reached 13.7 GW.

The company said Tidong Unit I was commissioned in record turnaround time following its acquisition in January 2026, highlighting its project execution and integration capabilities.

The remaining two units of the Tidong Hydro Plant are expected to be commissioned by June 2026.

Renewables account for 59% of portfolio
Renewable energy now accounts for 59% of JSW Energy’s overall installed capacity. The company’s renewable portfolio includes 3,924 MW of wind capacity and 2,440 MW of solar capacity, including hybrid projects, while hydro capacity stands at 1,681 MW.

Targets 30 GW capacity by 2030
JSW Energy said its total locked-in generation capacity currently stands at 32.1 GW, comprising 13.7 GW operational capacity and 13.8 GW under construction across thermal, hydro and renewable projects, along with a development pipeline of 4.6 GW.

The company plans to add around 3 GW of renewable energy capacity in FY27 and expects total capital expenditure of nearly ₹20,000 crore during the fiscal year.

The company also has 29.6 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity, including 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems.

JSW Energy aims to achieve 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, while targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
