Toyota Kirloskar Motor has achieved a major milestone in its electrification journey with cumulative sales of 3 lakh hybrid vehicles in India, underlining the growing acceptance of hybrid mobility solutions among Indian consumers.
The milestone highlights increasing customer preference for self-charging hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) technology, driven by factors such as higher fuel efficiency, lower emissions, improved driving performance and hassle-free ownership experience.
Multi-pathway strategy
Backed by more than three decades of global hybrid expertise, Toyota continues to strengthen its multi-pathway approach towards carbon neutrality by promoting multiple clean mobility technologies.
Globally, Toyota has sold over 38 million electrified vehicles, contributing to a reduction of more than 197 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. In India, the company currently offers a strong hybrid portfolio comprising the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota Innova HyCross, Toyota Camry Hybrid and Toyota Vellfire.
Growing customer trust
Speaking on the achievement, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Sabari Manohar said, “We are immensely proud to achieve the milestone of 3 lakh hybrid vehicle sales in India, reflecting the strong and growing customer trust in Toyota’s self-charging hybrid electric technology.
“At Toyota, our philosophy of ‘Mass Electrification’ is rooted in offering practical, scalable and inclusive mobility solutions. Hybrid technology serves as a critical bridge towards a cleaner future, enabling customers to embrace electrification seamlessly without compromising on performance, convenience or reliability.”
He added that the milestone further strengthens Toyota’s commitment towards supporting India’s transition to carbon neutrality through environmentally responsible mobility solutions.
Technology and ownership benefits
Toyota’s hybrid technology combines a petrol engine with an advanced electric motor to deliver improved efficiency and performance. The system intelligently switches between the two power sources and enables vehicles to operate in electric mode for a significant duration, helping improve fuel economy while reducing environmental impact.
The self-charging mechanism, powered through regenerative braking and engine charging, eliminates the need for external charging infrastructure and addresses range anxiety concerns, making hybrid vehicles practical for everyday use.
Further enhancing customer confidence, Toyota offers an eight-year warranty on hybrid batteries, reinforcing the durability and long-term reliability of its hybrid technology.
Focus on greener mobility
Guided by its vision of “Mass Happiness to All”, Toyota continues to promote a range of electrified mobility solutions, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), alongside alternative fuel technologies such as Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs).
The company said its broader objective remains supporting India’s shift towards lower-carbon and sustainable mobility solutions.
