Balaji Telefilms Reports Q4 Loss Of ₹14 Cr Amid Weak Television Demand

CW Bureau ·

Balaji Telefilms Ltd, a leading content production and digital entertainment company engaged in television, films and OTT-led businesses, reported a consolidated net loss of ₹14 crore for the March quarter against a net profit of ₹94 crore in the year-ago period, impacted by weakness in the television segment and soft response to the movie Vrusshabha.

Group revenue from operations declined to ₹48 crore from ₹66 crore. Around 80% of revenue came from commissioned business, while films contributed 5.82% and digital (B2C) business accounted for 13.94%.

The quarterly results also included tax expenses of ₹4 crore against ₹105 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Digital business gains traction

Managing Director Shobha Kapoor said FY26 remained a transition year for the entertainment industry, with changing audience preferences and softer trends in traditional television impacting the overall sector.

“Despite these industry-wide challenges, we remained focused on strengthening our content pipeline, expanding our digital ecosystem and maintaining financial discipline,” she said.

According to her, the commissioned business continued to remain the backbone of the company, while the digital segment showed encouraging traction led by platforms such as Kutingg and Balaji Astro Guide.

“We believe the increasing consumer adoption of digital-first content formats presents a significant long-term opportunity for the Company,” she added.

Focus on diversified entertainment portfolio

In the films segment, the company said Vrusshabha performed below expectations, while the response to Bhooth Bangla has been encouraging.

Balaji Telefilms Ltd said it remains focused on building a diversified portfolio across television, films and digital entertainment.

During the year, the company also strengthened its strategic initiatives with the launch of Hoonur, a talent management vertical, and expanded its collaboration with Netflix through the upcoming launch of Lock Upp on the streaming platform.
