The integration of Orient Cement into the Adani Group’s Ambuja Cements ecosystem marks a strategic milestone that will accelerate growth, expand market reach and strengthen the company’s long-term position in India’s cement sector, according to Orient Cement Chairman Vinod Bahety.
In his message to shareholders in the company’s Annual Report 2025-26, Bahety said the addition of Orient Cement’s 8.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) operational capacity has significantly enhanced Ambuja Cements’ footprint across key geographies, particularly in high-growth markets.
Strategic integration
“The integration of Orient Cement into the Ambuja Cements fold represents a strategic milestone for both organisations. With the addition of 8.5 MTPA of operational capacity, we significantly strengthened our footprint across key geographies, particularly in high-growth markets,” said Vinod Bahety.
He added that the integration accelerates the group’s long-term growth ambitions and further reinforces its position as one of India’s fastest-growing cement platforms.
According to Bahety, the transition provides Orient Cement access to a unified “One Cement Platform”, combining scale, legacy strengths, technical expertise and digital execution capabilities.
“Most importantly, it aligns Orient Cement with a long-term growth blueprint built on disciplined capital allocation, digital integration and sustainability leadership,” he said.
Unified cement ecosystem
Bahety noted that the proposed amalgamation of Orient Cement and ACC Ltd with Ambuja Cements goes beyond corporate consolidation and reflects a broader transformation in how the cement business will operate in the future.
The company is focusing on building a simpler and more agile organisational structure that empowers decision-making closer to the market. District-level ownership models and digitally enabled execution frameworks are expected to help shift the business from a volume-driven approach to a value-led demand strategy.
He said organisational integration is expected to unlock operational efficiencies while creating a stronger and more responsive cement platform.
Growth with discipline
Commenting on the operating environment during FY26, Bahety said the industry witnessed continued cost volatility despite strong demand drivers such as infrastructure development, urbanisation and resilient rural housing activity.
He highlighted that a key structural development during the year was the reduction of GST on cement from 28% to 18%, which improved affordability and supported higher consumption across market segments.
The reform, he said, has also helped the industry move from a commodity-oriented market towards greater value differentiation.
Bahety emphasised that growth was pursued with a strong focus on operational discipline through higher capacity utilisation, cost optimisation initiatives, product mix improvements and more efficient logistics planning.
Sustainability remains central
Sustainability continues to be a core pillar of the company’s growth strategy, Bahety said.He pointed to ongoing investments across the cement platform in renewable energy capacity, waste heat recovery systems, alternative fuels and raw materials, blended cement production and carbon capture and utilisation technologies.
The company is also advancing circular waste management initiatives through Geoclean as part of its broader environmental commitments.
Focus on long-term value creation
Looking ahead, Bahety said the integration of Orient Cement represents both a recognition of achievements to date and a strong endorsement of future opportunities.
“The integration of Orient Cement is both a celebration of what has been achieved and a powerful affirmation of what lies ahead,” said Bahety.
He added that the company will continue to focus on disciplined expansion, improving asset utilisation and strengthening cost resilience while delivering sustainable performance.
“Together, we are not merely constructing infrastructure, we are shaping the foundations of a stronger, more resilient and more sustainable India,”he said.
