Bijliride To Deploy 2,500 EVs In Next Three Months, Bets On Gig Workers

CW Bureau ·

EV rental and mobility-tech startup Bijliride has announced plans to deploy 2,500 electric vehicles over the next three months, betting on rising demand from gig workers, delivery partners and urban commuters seeking lower-cost transportation alternatives amid elevated fuel prices.

The expansion will be focused on strengthening the company’s presence in existing markets while selectively entering new cities through franchise-led partnerships.

Hyderabad remains key growth market
Bijliride said Hyderabad will continue to be a major focus market as it scales operations. The company is also evaluating expansion opportunities in high-demand urban centres including Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and select regions across Delhi NCR.

According to the startup, the rapid growth of quick-commerce, food delivery and gig economy services is creating strong demand for affordable electric mobility solutions, particularly among riders and fleet operators looking to reduce operating costs.

Expansion driven by STAR model
The planned rollout will be executed through Bijliride’s STAR expansion model, which is designed around a central operating hub supported by multiple pickup and drop-off points.

The company said the model is intended to improve accessibility, operational efficiency and rider convenience while helping increase fleet density across urban markets.

Rising fuel costs driving EV adoption
CEO & Co-Founder Shivam Sisodiya said the company’s focus extends beyond adding vehicles to building a reliable mobility ecosystem that can support scale.

He noted that higher fuel prices and concerns around global oil supply are accelerating the shift toward electric mobility among delivery riders and fleet operators. According to the company, riders travelling 120-150 kilometres daily could potentially save between ₹8,000 and ₹15,000 per month by switching from petrol-powered vehicles to EVs.

The anticipated savings, combined with the need for predictable operating costs, are contributing to growing demand for EV rental solutions.

Strengthening operational network
To support the upcoming scale-up, Bijliride is expanding its capabilities across fleet management, customer support, technology operations and business development.

The company is also investing in additional operational hubs, charging support infrastructure and service touchpoints to ensure service reliability as vehicle volumes increase.

Franchise partnerships under evaluation
As part of its growth strategy, Bijliride is in discussions with potential franchise and operating partners across Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi NCR and selected Tier-2 cities.

The startup said it has witnessed strong interest from entrepreneurs and fleet operators seeking to participate in India’s EV mobility transition through an asset-light and technology-enabled operating model.

Betting on India’s growing gig economy
With India’s gig economy and hyperlocal delivery ecosystem continuing to expand, Bijliride believes electric mobility is emerging as a practical long-term solution for urban transportation and last-mile delivery operations.

The planned deployment of 2,500 EVs is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the rapidly evolving electric mobility market while helping meet growing demand from delivery riders and urban commuters.
