Toyota India Posts 7% Sales Growth In May; Hits 3 Lakh Hybrid Vehicle Mark

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a 7% year-on-year increase in sales for May 2026, supported by sustained demand across its product portfolio and growing acceptance of hybrid vehicle technology in India.

The automaker sold 33,128 units during the month, compared with 30,864 units in May 2025. The May 2026 sales comprised 30,574 units in the domestic market and 2,554 units of exports.

Demand remains strong across portfolio

Toyota said the steady performance reflects continued customer preference for its vehicles, driven by factors such as quality, reliability and advanced technologies.

The company noted that demand remained healthy across multiple product segments, contributing to overall sales growth during the month.

Hybrid vehicle sales cross 3 lakh mark

A key highlight for Toyota during May was the achievement of a major milestone in its electrification journey.

The company crossed 3 lakh cumulative Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) sales in India, underscoring the increasing acceptance of hybrid technology among Indian consumers and the growing shift toward cleaner mobility solutions.

The milestone reinforces Toyota’s position as one of the leading proponents of hybrid mobility in the country.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Sabari Manohar said the company’s May sales performance reflects positive market acceptance of Toyota’s products and ownership experience.

He added that the achievement of 3 lakh hybrid vehicle sales highlights the rising adoption of strong hybrid technology and supports Toyota’s commitment to sustainable mobility through a multi-pathway approach.

Toyota said it will continue to focus on innovation aligned with evolving customer requirements while delivering long-term value.

The automaker added that its strategy remains centred on supporting India’s transition towards carbon neutrality through a mix of technologies and mobility solutions designed to reduce emissions while meeting diverse customer needs.
