Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has launched the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, a six-month startup engagement programme aimed at fostering next-generation mobility solutions through collaboration with emerging technology companies.
The programme, backed by Hyundai Motor Group’s global open innovation platform ZER01NE, seeks applications from startups working on advanced technologies spanning electrification, new mobility, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), artificial intelligence-driven tools and future vehicle technologies.
Startups can submit applications until the end of June 2026 through a dedicated platform managed by LINK Innovation, a global startup consulting and accelerator firm.
Hyundai sees startups as co-creators of future mobility
Hyundai Motor India, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tarun Garg, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to collaborative innovation.
“At HMIL, we strongly believe that the future of mobility will be shaped by collaboration, innovation and bold thinking. The Hyundai Innovation Challenge, curated in partnership with Hyundai Motor Group’s ZER01NE team, is designed to bring together some of the brightest minds and most promising startups to co-create solutions that redefine mobility,” he said.
Highlighting India’s growing role in global innovation, Garg added: “Given India’s dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem and its growing influence on global innovation, the Hyundai Innovation Challenge is poised to bring new tech innovations to the world of mobility. At HMIL, we see startups as partners and co-creators of a smarter, more sustainable future. We are excited about the possibilities we can unlock together.”
15 focus areas identified
The challenge outlines 15 focus areas, though Hyundai said startups with innovative ideas capable of delivering meaningful impact are encouraged to apply even if their solutions fall outside the identified themes.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Following an initial screening, shortlisted startups will undergo a detailed assessment of their technology and product readiness before presenting their solutions to HMIL’s senior leadership team in the final pitch round.
PoC grants, mentorship and investment opportunities
Selected startups will gain access to co-development opportunities, including Proof-of-Concept (PoC) grants, mentorship from Hyundai experts and exposure to the automaker’s customer ecosystem.
The programme also opens pathways for future investments and long-term strategic partnerships, enabling startups to scale their technologies through collaboration with one of India’s leading automotive manufacturers.
With the launch of the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, HMIL is strengthening its engagement with India’s startup ecosystem while accelerating the development of technologies that could shape the future of mobility.
