JSW MG Installs 1,000 EV Chargers, Plans Three NEV Launches In 2026

CW Bureau ·

JSW MG Motor India has become the first automobile manufacturer in the country to establish 1,000 community EV chargers, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s electric vehicle charging ecosystem.

The company said the chargers have been installed across 470 locations nationwide under its MG Charge initiative, covering residential societies, condominiums, hospitals, educational campuses, hotels and industrial parks.

Strengthening India’s EV charging network
The milestone underscores the growing importance of charging infrastructure in accelerating electric vehicle adoption across the country.

With the deployment of 1,000 community chargers, JSW MG Motor aims to address one of the key barriers to EV adoption by improving charging accessibility for consumers beyond public charging stations.

The company said the initiative is part of its broader strategy to support India’s transition towards sustainable mobility.

EV fleet covers 290 crore green kilometres
JSW MG Motor India also revealed that its electric vehicles have cumulatively travelled more than 290 crore green kilometres on Indian roads.

According to the company, this has resulted in the avoidance of approximately 4.17 lakh metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, highlighting the environmental impact of EV adoption.

Three new energy vehicles planned for 2026
Looking ahead, the automaker is preparing an aggressive new product pipeline for calendar year 2026. The company plans to launch three New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), including the introduction of plug-in hybrid technology in India. JSW MG Motor said it believes the country’s sustainability goals can be achieved through a mix of technologies rather than relying on a single powertrain solution.

The upcoming launches are expected to strengthen the company’s position in India’s evolving green mobility market.

Sustainability efforts extend to manufacturing
Beyond vehicle electrification, JSW MG Motor India highlighted several sustainability initiatives at its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat.

The company said more than 78% of the energy used at the plant comes from renewable sources, helping save over 9,300 metric tonnes of carbon emissions. Nearly 95% of the facility’s total power requirements are currently met through renewable energy.

Water consumption at the plant has also been reduced by 23% through process optimisation and the reuse of recycled water.

Focus on green manufacturing
The Halol facility incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies, including digitisation and Internet of Things (IoT)-based systems, to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational emissions.

Other sustainability measures undertaken by the company include a Zero External Discharge plant that utilizes 100% treated water, the use of cleaner PNG fuel across manufacturing processes, and the plantation of more than 11,000 trees.

The facility has also achieved Zero Waste to Landfill – Gold Maturity certification and operates bio-composting and biogas generation systems for organic waste management. Additionally, the site includes a Miyawaki forest with 5,700 plants and 21 groundwater recharge wells.

Building a multi-technology mobility ecosystem
The latest charging infrastructure milestone, coupled with upcoming NEV launches and sustainability initiatives, reflects JSW MG Motor India’s strategy of building a comprehensive green mobility ecosystem spanning vehicle technology, charging infrastructure and environmentally responsible manufacturing.
