Hyundai Motor India Ltd has said production activities affected by the recent fire incident at a key supplier’s manufacturing facility are expected to return to normal by June 22, while assuring that retail sales will remain largely unaffected due to adequate inventory levels across its dealer network.
The update comes after a fire at the manufacturing facility of Mobis India Ltd, one of Hyundai’s suppliers, which had temporarily disrupted the automaker’s production operations.
In a stock exchange filing, Hyundai said it is taking all necessary measures to restore production, including sourcing automotive components from alternate locations. The company added that the disruption is primarily limited to Chennai Plant 1, while operations at its Pune plant and Chennai Plant 2 continue largely unaffected.
According to the company, Chennai Plant 1 is expected to regain its production pace by June 15, 2026, with all production operations projected to normalise by June 22.
Alternative sourcing measures underway
Hyundai said it has initiated multiple contingency measures to minimise the impact of the disruption. These include arranging critical automotive parts from alternate sources to ensure continuity of manufacturing operations.
The company is also assessing the overall impact of the supplier facility fire on its operations and production schedules.
Production loss expected to be recovered
Despite the temporary disruption, Hyundai expressed confidence that any production loss resulting from the incident would be largely recovered within the next quarter.
The automaker said its manufacturing network and supply chain management efforts are helping mitigate the impact of the disruption and accelerate the return to normal production levels.
Retail sales to remain unaffected
Hyundai further reassured customers and investors that it does not expect any significant impact on retail sales during June 2026.
The company noted that it has sufficient inventory available across its sales network, enabling it to meet customer demand despite the temporary production constraints at Chennai Plant 1.
The disclosure is expected to ease concerns over potential supply shortages, with Hyundai maintaining that the disruption is temporary and that normal operations will be restored within the coming weeks.
