Nuberg Secures Tanzania Chlor-Alkali Plant Project, Boosts Africa Presence

CW Bureau ·

Nuberg EPC, a leading global EPC and turnkey project solutions provider, has secured a contract from Msufini Tanzania Ltd. for the review, design, procurement, installation, construction and commissioning of a 45 tonnes per day (TPD) chlor-alkali plant in the Mlandizi District of Tanzania’s Coast Region.

The project is scheduled for commissioning by January 2027 and will be executed using advanced process technology aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reliability, safety and environmental compliance.

Project scope and industrial impact
Under the contract, Nuberg EPC will undertake end-to-end execution of the facility, supported by project management systems, quality assurance measures and a focus on timely delivery.

Located in the Mlandizi district, the project site offers logistical advantages due to its proximity to key transportation corridors and port infrastructure. The development is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting industrial growth in the region.

The plant will produce chlorine and caustic soda as its primary products. It will also manufacture a range of value-added derivatives including hydrogen, hydrochloric acid (HCl), sodium hypochlorite, liquid chlorine, caustic soda lye and caustic flakes.

These products serve critical sectors such as water treatment, sanitation, pharmaceuticals, textiles, paper and pulp, plastics, and chemical manufacturing.

Expanding chlor-alkali expertise
Nuberg EPC said it has extensive experience in chlorine derivatives and downstream chemical projects, including calcium chloride, ferric chloride, stable bleaching powder, chlorinated paraffin wax, EDC to PVC, chloro-methanes and other integrated chemical value chains.

With a portfolio of 25 chlor-alkali plants globally, the company continues to expand its footprint across emerging markets and industrial infrastructure projects.

The latest order adds to Nuberg EPC’s international project portfolio spanning more than 35 countries. The company has previously executed projects across several African nations, including Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Egypt.

Strategic project
Nuberg Group of Industries Chairman & Managing Director A K Tyagi said, “We are delighted to have been entrusted with this strategic project in Tanzania, which further augments Nuberg’s global EPC portfolio and strengthens our presence in high-growth international markets. Africa continues to offer compelling opportunities for industrial and chemical sector expansion, and our partnership with Msufini Tanzania Ltd. reflects a shared vision of developing resilient and future-ready industrial infrastructure.”

He added, “This project is integral to supporting local industries through reliable access to essential chemicals, thereby enabling value addition across multiple sectors. At Nuberg, our focus remains on delivering engineering excellence, upholding the highest standards of safety and quality, and ensuring disciplined project execution within defined timelines.”

Supporting Tanzania’s industrialisation goals
The project is expected to contribute to Tanzania’s industrial development by increasing domestic production of essential chemicals, reducing import dependence and encouraging downstream industrial growth.

Nuberg EPC said the project aligns with Tanzania’s broader objectives of industrialisation, economic diversification and employment generation.

The company is also expanding its presence in green energy, oil and gas, and fertiliser sectors, with capabilities spanning green hydrogen, emerging fuels and advanced process solutions.
