Meesho, India’s largest e-commerce platform, has acquired community-led B2B commerce platform Kirana Club in a deal valued at approximately ₹202 crore, marking a significant step in its efforts to expand digital commerce infrastructure for millions of small retailers across Bharat.

The acquisition strengthens Meesho’s presence in India’s vast grocery and general trade ecosystem while opening new opportunities in the broader B2B retail market. Kirana Club, which will continue to operate independently within the Meesho group, has built one of India’s largest digital communities of kirana owners with over 4.1 million registered retailers.

Expanding reach in India’s kirana ecosystem
Founded in 2020 by Anshul Gupta and Aishwarya Jain, Kirana Club offers a mobile-first platform that enables kirana store owners to discover, compare and order FMCG and grocery products directly from brands. The platform is designed specifically for underserved markets across Bharat and combines commerce with community-driven engagement.

The acquisition provides Meesho with deeper access to India’s estimated $650-billion grocery market, where kirana and general trade channels account for nearly 90% of sales. It also creates a foundation for expanding B2B commerce across multiple retail categories.

Extending the marketplace model
Kirana Club’s asset-light business model closely aligns with Meesho’s approach to building technology-driven marketplaces that expand access for underserved users.

Meesho transformed consumer internet commerce through a capital-efficient third-party marketplace model. Similarly, Kirana Club has built a zero-inventory, zero-field-sales B2B marketplace focused on enabling small retailers outside metro India to access a wider assortment of products with greater transparency.

Meesho Chairman Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vidit Aatrey, said, “At Meesho, we have always believed that technology can expand access and opportunity for underserved users across India. Kirana Club has built deep trust among small retailers through its asset-light and community-first approach. We see significant opportunities to strengthen access, transparency and product discovery for kiranas in underserved markets across India, and also extend this to all forms of B2B retail across India.”

Addressing challenges in underserved markets

India’s grocery market is estimated at approximately $658 billion, with kirana and general trade channels accounting for around 91% of the sector. However, millions of retailers in Tier III, Tier IV and rural markets continue to face challenges such as fragmented sourcing networks, limited product availability and opaque pricing structures.

Kirana Club was established to bridge these gaps by providing a digital marketplace where retailers can source products, access pricing information, discover promotional schemes and engage with peers in local languages.

The company currently supports more than 4 million registered retailers across the country.

Accelerating growth through Meesho’s ecosystem
The integration with Meesho’s wider ecosystem is expected to enhance Kirana Club’s growth prospects through access to national logistics capabilities, a larger supplier base and marketplace infrastructure.

These capabilities could help expand category coverage, improve fulfilment efficiencies and accelerate retailer acquisition in underserved regions.

Kirana Club Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Anshul Gupta, said, “Kirana Club was built on a simple belief: small retailers in Bharat deserve the same access, transparency and efficiency as modern retail. Over the last few years, we have built deep trust with kirana retailers by combining community, local insights and commerce. Meesho understands Bharat at scale and shares our belief in serving underserved users through technology. With this partnership, we can accelerate our mission of building India’s most trusted digital commerce network for kiranas.”

Full investor exit with leadership continuity
The transaction provides a full exit to Kirana Club’s existing investors while retaining founder leadership and operational continuity within the business.

With the acquisition, Meesho aims to further strengthen entrepreneurship and digital commerce adoption across Bharat by enabling millions of kirana retailers to access modern commerce infrastructure and supply networks.
