Sarvam Raises $234 Mn In Series B Round, Led By HCLTech Of ₹1,427 Cr

CW Bureau ·

Sarvam AI (Axonwise Pvt Ltd), India’s full-stack sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) company, has raised $234 million in the first close of its $300 million Series B funding round at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion.

The funding round saw participation from HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners, with continued backing from existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.

Growth plans

Sarvam said the fresh capital will be used to accelerate research and development of its next frontier AI model focused on agentic AI, coding and cybersecurity applications.

The company also plans to expand access to large-scale computing infrastructure and strengthen its deployment across key industry verticals.

Sarvam operates across the AI value chain, including training and inference infrastructure, frontier model research and go-to-market offerings for enterprises, developers and government organisations.

Management comment

“We are clear that research-led innovation to create AI that works at India’s scale is a very large opportunity. That means models that understand our voices, read our documents and serve intelligence at a cost every enterprise and government can afford,” said Sarvam Co-Founder Pratyush Kumar.

“Building on this template, we are innovating on a full-stack offering for enterprises to own and operate their own sovereign AI,” he added.

HCLTech invests $150 million

“Our investment of $150 million in Sarvam marks a significant step toward building India’s trusted and globally competitive AI ecosystem,” said HCLTech Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director C. Vijayakumar.

“Our ambition is to diffuse this technology widely in India, creating significant value across sectors for citizens, small businesses, enterprises and state and central governments. We are positioned to both help them adopt and innovate on AI,” said Sarvam Co-Founder Vivek Raghavan.

Sovereign AI focus

“Sarvam is building and deploying India’s sovereign AI platform — serving 1.4 billion citizens, mission-critical sectors and large enterprises,” said Bessemer Venture Partners Partner Pankaj Mitra.

The funding comes amid growing interest in sovereign AI platforms as governments and enterprises seek greater control over data, infrastructure and AI capabilities.
