Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani on Friday unveiled an ambitious artificial intelligence strategy centred on building India-first AI services that are trusted, affordable and accessible in 22 Indian languages.
Speaking at the company’s 49th Annual General Meeting, Ambani said Reliance Intelligence is creating a sovereign, green and secure compute infrastructure that will power a new generation of AI applications for consumers, businesses and government services.
Suite of AI platforms unveiled
The company announced plans to roll out a range of AI-powered platforms, including JioBharatIQ, AI Vyapar, JioHealthIQ, JioLearnIQ and JioKrishiIQ.
According to Ambani, JioBharatIQ will make AI a companion for every Indian, while AI Vyapar will help small merchants and businesses improve productivity, serve customers better and compete more effectively.
JioHealthIQ is designed to bring intelligent healthcare support closer to families, while JioLearnIQ will enable students to learn in their preferred language and at their own pace.
For the agriculture sector, JioKrishiIQ will help farmers make informed decisions related to crops, weather conditions, resource management and income generation.
Focus on affordability and accessibility
Ambani said all the AI services are being built around a common principle of making artificial intelligence easy to use, reliable and affordable for everyone.
The platforms are expected to create a scalable foundation for AI-powered services across consumer, enterprise and government segments.
“Just as Jio made data extremely affordable for every Indian, Reliance Intelligence will disrupt AI economics by making it dramatically more affordable for every Indian by the end of this decade,” Ambani said.
Building AI in Indian languages
A key differentiator of Reliance’s AI strategy is its focus on developing AI natively in Indian languages rather than translating content from English.
Ambani said the company is building AI systems capable of understanding and responding in local languages, enabling wider adoption across the country.
“Unlike global AI platforms that build in English and translate later, Jio is building AI natively in Indian languages. Be it a Marathi farmer or a Tamil student, both will get an AI that thinks and replies in their language,” he said.
Investments in talent and innovation
Reliance is simultaneously building a world-class team of AI researchers and engineers while investing in India’s AI start-up ecosystem.
The company is also collaborating with leading Indian universities and research institutions to accelerate AI innovation and research.
AI transformation across Reliance businesses
Ambani said artificial intelligence is already delivering tangible benefits across Reliance’s businesses. At Jio, AI-native network management is helping improve operational efficiency and service quality at scale.
Reliance Retail is using AI-powered merchandising and supply chain optimisation to reduce waste and improve product availability for customers.
At JioStar, AI is supporting multilingual content creation, while Reliance’s Oil-to-Chemicals business is leveraging AI-driven process optimisation to improve yields and reduce energy consumption.
AI for India, by India
Highlighting Reliance’s long-term vision, Ambani said the company aims to build AI solutions tailored to India’s unique requirements while creating technologies that can eventually serve global markets. “What we are building is AI for India, AI by India, AI that will one day serve the world,” he said.
The company also showcased some of Jio’s latest AI innovations during the AGM, offering a glimpse into its future technology roadmap.
