Sri Lanka is set to become more accessible for travellers from Gujarat with FitsAir launching direct flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo, cutting travel time to just 3 hours and 40 minutes.
The new service, introduced in partnership with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, City of Dreams Sri Lanka and Walkers Tours, aims to position Sri Lanka as a preferred short-haul international destination for luxury holidays, family vacations, wellness retreats, destination weddings and entertainment-focused getaways.
Strengthening tourism links between India and Sri Lanka
The direct route is expected to enhance tourism and cultural exchanges between the two neighbouring countries while offering Indian travellers a more convenient travel experience.
Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, Senior Vice President – Colombo Hotels and City of Dreams Sri Lanka, General Manager, Kamal Munasinghe, said Indian travellers are increasingly seeking destinations that combine easy accessibility with premium experiences.
“This new route allows travellers from Gujarat to experience Colombo and City of Dreams Sri Lanka more conveniently than ever before,” he said.
FitsAir Director Ammar Kassim said the airline is delighted to introduce direct connectivity between Ahmedabad and Colombo.
“The route is designed to offer travellers a seamless and comfortable journey while strengthening tourism and cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka,” he added.
Colombo emerges as a short-haul luxury destination
Industry stakeholders believe Colombo is becoming one of the most attractive international getaway options for Indian travellers due to shorter travel times, the availability of curated holiday packages and growing travel conveniences such as UPI-based payments.
India and Sri Lanka share strong cultural, historical and religious ties, with heritage tourism and the Ramayana trail continuing to attract Indian visitors, particularly families from Gujarat.
Apart from its cultural appeal, Colombo offers a blend of luxury hospitality, shopping, nightlife, beaches, cuisine and entertainment experiences.
City of Dreams Sri Lanka anchors luxury tourism push
A key attraction for travellers is City of Dreams Sri Lanka, South Asia’s first integrated resort destination.
The resort combines luxury accommodation, entertainment, dining, nightlife, lifestyle experiences and large-format celebrations, including weddings and social events.
Visitors can also explore the broader Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo and Cinnamon Red Colombo hospitality portfolio across Colombo.
Faster and more convenient travel
The direct service will operate between Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport, eliminating the need for connecting flights.
FitsAir will deploy Airbus narrow-body aircraft on the route, offering international travellers onboard hospitality, light refreshments and a streamlined flying experience.
The schedules have been designed to maximise holiday time, enabling passengers to begin exploring Colombo soon after arrival.
Launch packages start at ₹55,555
To mark the launch of the Ahmedabad-Colombo route, special travel packages for Indian travellers are being offered starting from ₹55,555.
The airline and its hospitality partners expect the route to attract honeymooners, families, luxury travellers, wellness seekers and younger tourists looking for a quick international escape, with curated itineraries extending beyond Colombo to destinations such as Kandy and Sri Lanka’s southern beaches.
