Electric mobility platform Yulu has announced that more than 12,000 women home service professionals across 12 Indian cities have used its mobility platform to date, highlighting the growing role of affordable electric mobility in enabling livelihoods in the country’s expanding on-demand home services sector.
The company said its EV-sharing and battery-swapping ecosystem is helping women access employment opportunities by providing low-cost, hassle-free transportation for commuting between their homes, service hubs and customers’ locations.
Supporting a fast-growing home services market
The announcement comes as India’s online home services market continues to expand rapidly. According to Redseer Strategy Consultants, the sector is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18-22%, reaching nearly $1 billion by FY2030.
The company noted that around 35,000 women currently work in the on-demand home services segment as home cleaners, meal preparers and laundry professionals. As the industry becomes more organised and vehicle access improves, employment in the segment is expected to increase significantly.
Affordable EV rentals unlock more earning opportunities
Yulu said many women, particularly first-time job seekers, do not own personal vehicles, limiting their ability to accept multiple service bookings.
To address this, the company offers an all-inclusive EV rental model that includes battery swapping and vehicle maintenance. Its lightweight, speed-capped electric vehicles do not require a driving licence, in accordance with applicable legal exemptions for the vehicle category.
The company said access to affordable mobility enables professionals to take on 25-30% more assignments daily, improving their earning potential while reducing travel-related stress and time.
CEO speaks
Yulu Co-founder and CEO Amit Gupta said: “A woman already navigates many barriers and challenges when she enters the workforce, especially in a new city. Access to a vehicle often spells the difference between being dependent on her family and having an additional income stream that unlocks independence and dignity. Yulu’s platform lowers that barrier by providing simple, affordable access to EVs, allowing service professionals to complete more assignments, earn more consistently and work on their own terms. The on-demand home services category is growing at remarkable speed and Yulu is proud to be the mobility backbone enabling that growth.”
Expanding impact in the gig economy
Beyond the home services sector, Yulu said it has supported more than 5.5 lakh delivery partners and gig workers across India. According to the company, many gig workers have increased their incomes by 30-40% after switching from petrol-powered two-wheelers to Yulu’s shared electric vehicles.
The company said its mobility platform is contributing to higher workforce participation, improved incomes and more sustainable urban livelihoods by making affordable and accessible transportation available to millions of professionals.
