Vikram Solar Unveils Production Unit In TN, Rolls Out First Solar Module

Vikram Solar has formally commissioned its new solar module manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan in Tamil Nadu, with the successful production of the plant’s first solar module, marking another milestone in the company’s capacity expansion strategy.

The new greenfield facility follows the recent commissioning of the company’s Vallam plant and is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem through advanced automation and future vertical integration.

Smart factory to boost manufacturing capacity
Spread across 6 lakh sq. ft., the Gangaikondan facility has been designed as a next-generation smart factory with advanced automation and digital manufacturing technologies.

The company said the plant features real-time production monitoring, automated quality inspections, complete product traceability and intelligent grading, sorting and packaging systems to enhance manufacturing efficiency, quality and reliability while reducing manual intervention.

The facility is also expected to generate employment for more than 1,500 skilled professionals, supporting regional industrial development and expanding India’s clean energy manufacturing base.

Production begins with TOPCon modules
The first products manufactured at the plant are Vikram Solar’s Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules. According to the company, the modules deliver rated power ranging from 615 Wp to 640 Wp and offer module efficiencies of up to 23.69%.

Integrated manufacturing roadmap
Vikram Solar said the Gangaikondan campus forms a cornerstone of its long-term strategy to establish a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem in India.

Over the coming years, the facility will progressively house module, solar cell, wafer and ingot manufacturing under one roof, enabling greater supply chain resilience, improved quality control and higher domestic value addition.

As part of its expansion roadmap, the company plans to establish 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY27, add another 3 GW by FY28 and develop 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY29-30.

Chairman outlines long-term vision
Vikram Solar Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary said, “The rollout of the first module from our Gangaikondan plant marks an important milestone in Vikram Solar’s growth journey. Having crossed 10 GW in cumulative global module deployments earlier this year, we are building capacity against demonstrated demand.”

He added, “As we progressively add cell, wafer, and ingot production at this site, we are building an integrated manufacturing platform aligned with India’s domestic content framework, strengthening supply chain resilience, enhancing domestic value creation, and supporting India’s clean energy ambitions. This is more than a new plant. It is an investment in the future of Indian solar manufacturing.”
