Blurgs AI, an IIT Madras alumni-founded deep-tech startup, has raised $2.2 million in a funding round led by Pravega Ventures and Shastra VC to accelerate the global expansion of its artificial intelligence-powered intelligence platforms for defence, national security and commercial maritime applications.
The funding round also saw participation from angel investors Suraj Nalin, Co-founder of PlaySimple Games, and Yashwanth Madhusudhan, Co-founder of Fyle.
Funding to support global expansion
The fresh capital will be deployed to strengthen Blurgs AI’s core technology, expand its engineering team and accelerate product development across commercial maritime applications, including ports, shipyards, fisheries management and ocean conservation.
The company also plans to deepen its defence capabilities while expanding into international markets witnessing rising demand for maritime intelligence solutions.
Platforms power defence and maritime operations
Blurgs AI develops AI-powered intelligence platforms serving defence, national security and commercial maritime customers.
Its commercial maritime solutions provide real-time operational intelligence for ports, fleets, shipyards and fisheries, helping organisations improve visibility, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
The company’s defence platforms support threat detection, adversary monitoring and cross-domain situational awareness for mission-critical operations.
Strong customer base before institutional funding
The startup has built an impressive client portfolio before raising institutional capital. Its platforms are currently used by organisations including the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Bharat Electronics, DRDO Labs, Mumbai Port Authority, Dubai Maritime City and The Nature Conservancy Group, spanning defence, maritime infrastructure, conservation and public sector organisations across multiple geographies.
Founders eye global deep-tech leadership
Blurgs AI was founded by Roshan Raj Mohanty and Avinash Kori, both alumni of IIT Madras. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Roshan Raj Mohanty said the company aims to build world-class deep-tech platforms from India for global markets.
“The oceans are becoming more connected, contested, and commercially critical than ever before. At Blurgs AI, we believe the future of security and critical infrastructure will depend on trusted intelligence that is real-time, resilient, and reliable. We are building deep-tech platforms from India that help nations, enterprises, and communities see better, decide faster, and operate with greater confidence,” he said.
Chief Scientist and Co-founder Avinash Kori who holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Imperial College London, said the company’s technology focuses on converting complex data into actionable intelligence.
“At its core, Blurgs AI applies scientific discipline to critical decision-making by separating signal from noise, reasoning through uncertainty and turning complex evidence into actionable insight,” he said.
Investors back maritime intelligence opportunity
Explaining the investment rationale, Pravega Ventures said India’s coastline represents a strategic national asset, while climate change and evolving geopolitics are increasing the importance of maritime intelligence.
The venture capital firm said Blurgs AI has developed world-class technology capable of serving ports, shipyards, fisheries and defence applications globally.
Shastra VC Managing Partner Vasant Rao said maritime infrastructure is becoming increasingly software-defined, creating demand for intelligence platforms that transform fragmented operational and sensor data into real-time decision support for mission-critical environments.
Riding the wave of AI-led maritime transformation
The latest funding comes as governments and enterprises worldwide increase investments in AI-powered surveillance, maritime security and critical infrastructure management amid growing geopolitical tensions and rising global trade.
With a customer base already spanning defence, ports and maritime infrastructure, Blurgs AI is positioning itself to capitalise on the growing global demand for intelligent, real-time decision-support platforms built on artificial intelligence.
