Pfizer Focuses On Vaccines, Internal Medicine To Power Growth In India

CW Bureau ·

Pfizer strengthened its growth momentum during the year In India through strong execution across its vaccines, internal medicine and hospital businesses, supported by new product launches, strategic partnerships and sustained market leadership across key therapeutic segments.

In a message to shareholders in the company’s Annual Report 2026, Pfizer Ltd Managing Director Meenakshi Nevatia said the company’s Vaccines business consolidated its leadership in the paediatric pneumococcal segment while expanding its footprint in adult immunisation with the launch of Prevenar 20.

Vaccines and internal medicine drive growth
Nevatia said the Internal Medicine business remained a major growth driver, led by the strong performance of Eliquis, which recorded 30% year-on-year growth. The business also maintained leadership positions in women’s healthcare and vitamins while benefiting from strategic go-to-market partnerships that expanded market reach.

The Hospitals Business further strengthened its position in anti-infectives with the introduction of Emblaveo, while Zavicefta retained its market leadership with a 42% market share, reinforcing Pfizer’s focus on responsible antimicrobial stewardship.

“These achievements reinforce our commitment to bringing breakthrough science to India and improving patient outcomes across a broad spectrum of healthcare needs,” Nevatia said.

New therapies expand portfolio
During the year, Pfizer introduced several new therapies across its business segments.

The company launched Prevenar 20, a next-generation pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for adults offering protection against 20 serotypes of pneumococcal disease, building on the success of Prevenar 13.

In the hospital segment, Pfizer launched Emblaveo, an intensive care unit-based anti-infective therapy combining aztreonam and avibactam to address multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections.

The Internal Medicine business also introduced Nurtec, an orally disintegrating treatment for migraine, aimed at addressing a condition affecting more than 200 million people in India.

New launches gain strong traction
According to IQVIA MAT March 2026 data cited by the company, Prevenar 20 captured a 12.1% value market share in India’s pneumococcal vaccines market since its launch in August 2025 and ranked among the country’s top two new pharmaceutical launches.

Nevatia said both Prevenar 20 and Emblaveo have been recognised among the top 10 pharmaceutical innovations available in India, reflecting their growing clinical acceptance.

Cipla partnership expands access
As part of its strategy to improve healthcare access beyond metropolitan markets, Pfizer entered into an exclusive marketing and distribution partnership with Cipla Ltd.

Under the collaboration, Pfizer brands including Corex Dx, Corex LS, Dolonex and Neksium will leverage Cipla’s nationwide distribution network to expand availability across Tier 2 cities and non-metro markets.

She said the partnership combines Pfizer’s scientific and manufacturing strengths with Cipla’s deep local market capabilities, helping ensure wider patient access to trusted therapies across the country.

Focus on quality and compliance
Highlighting Pfizer’s operational priorities, Nevatia said quality remains central to the company’s business, supported by a robust Quality Management System and strict adherence to regulatory standards.

She said the company embeds quality, patient safety, product efficacy, data integrity, risk management and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle to maintain trust among patients, healthcare professionals and regulators.
