Uno Minda Ltd, a global technology leader in automotive components and systems manufacturing, has announced its entry into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment with plans to invest around ₹320 crore in a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The company’s board has approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art greenfield plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad). The facility, expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of FY28, will be developed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Pvt Ltd, the company’s joint venture with Japan-based automotive seating specialist TACHI-S Company Ltd.
Move into a high-value automotive segment
The expansion marks Uno Minda’s transition from manufacturing seat recliners to producing complete passenger vehicle seating systems, one of the highest-value product categories in the automotive supply chain.
The company entered into a joint venture with TACHI-S in September 2022 to manufacture and market seat recliners for passenger vehicles. Building on that foundation, the latest expansion significantly enhances Uno Minda’s presence in the passenger vehicle segment while increasing its potential revenue per vehicle.
Anchor order secured from leading OEM
Providing an early boost to the expansion, the joint venture has already secured an anchor order from a leading automobile manufacturer, validating the company’s engineering capabilities and manufacturing readiness to meet the stringent quality standards of India’s passenger vehicle industry.
The order is expected to provide momentum as the company scales its presence in the seating systems business.

Uno Minda Ltd Managing Director Ravi Mehra described the move as one of the most significant milestones in the company’s growth journey.
He said entering the complete passenger vehicle seating systems segment represents a strategic expansion that will substantially increase the company’s value contribution per vehicle while strengthening its presence in a product category central to the premium in-cabin experience.
Mehra added that the new greenfield facility reflects Uno Minda’s commitment to advanced domestic manufacturing and delivering high-performance seating solutions tailored to the evolving needs of India’s automotive market.
