HCLTech has announced its entry into the full-stack artificial intelligence (AI) market with a strategic investment of up to ₹3,500 crore to establish AI data centres in India, marking a significant expansion of its AI infrastructure and services portfolio.
The company said the investment is aimed at addressing the growing demand for AI-led services and solutions across enterprises and government organisations, while positioning itself as an end-to-end provider of AI technology solutions.
AI infrastructure push
The proposed investment will support the creation of AI data centres with the potential to scale up to 50 MW of capacity. HCLTech said the new infrastructure will complement its existing strengths in AI data centre design, DevOps, AI cloud operations and software platforms, enabling it to offer integrated AI solutions spanning infrastructure, platforms and managed services.
The investment will be routed through a newly formed subsidiary and its step-down subsidiaries dedicated to the AI data centre business.
India offers strong growth opportunity
HCLTech said India is among the world’s fastest-growing technology markets, with rapid expansion in digital infrastructure creating significant opportunities for AI-driven investments.
According to the company, India’s data centre ecosystem is expected to expand from the current 1.8 GW to 5-7 GW by 2030, driven by increasing digital adoption, data localisation requirements and the growing need for GPU-powered infrastructure to support AI training and inference workloads. A substantial share of this capacity addition is expected to come from AI-focused data centres.
CEO on the strategy
HCLTech CEO & Managing Director C Vijayakumar said, “The convergence of AI-led demand, supply constraints and push for digital sovereignty presents a compelling opportunity for us to emerge as a full-stack AI technology solutions provider. Our entry into the AI data center space positions us to capture the full value of this opportunity, as the industry transitions from physical infrastructure to higher-value, AI-ready solutions. Our managed services and outcome-based services to our global clients would also benefit significantly from this investment.”
The move is expected to strengthen HCLTech’s position in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem by combining AI infrastructure with cloud, software and managed services, allowing the company to address enterprise AI requirements across the entire technology stack.
