JSW MG Motor Unveils India’s First Multi New Energy Vehicle Platform

CW Bureau ·

JSW MG Motor India has unveiled MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), describing it as India’s first Multi New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform capable of supporting multiple electrified powertrains, including electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range extender electric vehicles.

The company said the future-ready modular architecture will serve as the technological backbone for its next generation of new energy vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility in India.

One platform, multiple powertrains
MG ADAPT has been developed as a flexible and intelligent modular platform capable of accommodating Battery Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEVs) within a common architecture.

According to the company, the platform has been engineered to accelerate product development while enhancing driving range, charging capability, efficiency, safety, performance and overall driving refinement.

The modular design also provides flexibility to integrate future mobility technologies, enabling the company to offer different powertrain options based on evolving customer preferences.

Hybrid-focused technology ecosystem
At the core of MG ADAPT is an integrated technology ecosystem developed specifically for hybrid applications. The platform combines a dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated battery system, a first-in-India 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit, and what the company describes as the world’s first electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission.

These components are managed by an intelligent energy management system that continuously optimises the interaction between the engine, battery and electric motor to maximise fuel efficiency, performance and driving comfort.

The dedicated hybrid engine has been designed to deliver higher thermal efficiency while reducing fuel consumption, while the dedicated battery system offers quicker electric response, improved safety and enhanced efficiency.

The compact 10-in-1 electric drive unit simplifies system integration while improving vehicle performance, and the dedicated hybrid transmission ensures smoother power delivery and refined driving characteristics.

Intelligent drive modes
The platform’s intelligent energy management system automatically selects the most efficient operating strategy based on driving conditions through four dedicated drive modes.

These include Pure Electric Drive for silent urban commuting, Series Hybrid Drive, where the engine generates electricity while the electric motor powers the wheels, Parallel Hybrid Drive, which combines engine and motor power for improved performance, and Engine Direct Drive, optimised for efficient highway cruising.

Range extender capability
MG ADAPT also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology, where the electric motor exclusively drives the wheels while a petrol engine functions solely as a generator to recharge the battery when required.

The company said this configuration offers an electric-first driving experience while significantly extending driving range, reducing range anxiety and making longer journeys more convenient.

JSW MG Motor India Managing Director, Anurag Mehrotra, said the future of mobility lies in providing customers with the flexibility to choose the energy solution that best suits their lifestyle without compromising on performance or driving experience.

He said MG ADAPT marks a significant milestone in the company’s new energy vehicle journey by bringing multiple propulsion technologies onto a single intelligent platform. According to Mehrotra, the architecture will underpin JSW MG Motor India’s future product portfolio while strengthening its commitment to accelerating sustainable mobility in the country.
