VA Tech Wabag Ltd has secured a large order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for the design, construction and operation of sewage treatment facilities in Bengaluru.
The order, classified by the company as a “large” project valued between ₹250 crore and ₹600 crore, includes a 100 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Byramangala, a 60 MLD STP at Bellandur and a 25 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant (TTP) at Byramangala.
Wastewater infrastructure
The scope of work covers design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the wastewater treatment facilities, along with biogas-based captive power generation.
The STPs will be based on the Activated Sludge Process integrated with a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) system. The Tertiary Treatment Plant at Byramangala will use ultrafiltration technology to produce high-quality treated water for distribution to nearby water bodies.
Sustainable operations
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase of the project is scheduled for completion within 36 months. It will be followed by a seven-year operations and maintenance contract.
The facilities will incorporate anaerobic sludge digestion and biogas-based power generation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower energy consumption, improve operational efficiency and promote resource recovery.

The company said the integration of advanced wastewater treatment technologies with renewable energy generation will support Bengaluru’s long-term water security while advancing the city’s sustainability and circular economy goals.
