SpiceJet Adds Three Airbus A320 To Fleet To Bolster Network Expansion

CW Bureau ·

Budget airline SpiceJet has inducted three Airbus A320 aircraft into its fleet under damp lease arrangements, boosting capacity as the airline prepares to expand its domestic network and cater to rising passenger demand.

The three aircraft have already arrived in India and are scheduled to begin commercial operations later this week, strengthening the carrier’s fleet ahead of the upcoming peak travel season.

Capacity boost for network growth
The latest induction is part of SpiceJet’s broader fleet expansion strategy aimed at adding more flights on existing routes while improving connectivity across key domestic destinations.

The airline said the additional capacity will also support the launch of new services as travel demand continues to recover and grow.

Damp lease offers flexibility
The aircraft have been acquired under damp lease arrangements, under which the lessor provides the aircraft along with certain operational services, enabling airlines to induct capacity quickly while maintaining operational flexibility and optimising costs.

SpiceJet said the leasing model allows it to efficiently scale operations without the longer lead times associated with outright acquisitions or dry leases.

More aircraft in the pipeline
The airline is also in advanced discussions with multiple aircraft lessors to induct additional aircraft in the coming months as part of its ongoing fleet augmentation programme.

The move is expected to strengthen SpiceJet’s operational capabilities and support its growth strategy in an increasingly competitive domestic aviation market.

SpiceJet Chief Business Officer Debojo Maharshi said the induction of the three Airbus A320 aircraft aligns with the airline’s planned capacity expansion.

“As demand continues to grow, these aircraft will help us add more flights on existing routes, improve connectivity and support the launch of new services. We are steadily building capacity ahead of the busy travel season and remain focused on offering our passengers a wider choice of destinations and a reliable travel experience,” he said.
