Danfoss India has partnered with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Madras, Bombay and Kanpur, along with the Immersive Technology and Entrepreneurship Labs (ITEL) Foundation, to support a six-month residential Power Electronics Finishing School aimed at creating industry-ready engineers for India’s clean energy and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The initiative comes at a time when demand for specialised power electronics engineers is rising rapidly, driven by the expansion of electric vehicles, renewable energy, industrial automation and energy-efficient infrastructure. The programme seeks to bridge the long-standing gap between academic learning and industry requirements by combining classroom education with practical industry exposure.
Focus on emerging technologies
Coordinated by the ITEL Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the programme will train 30 fresh engineering graduates every year across the participating IITs.
The curriculum includes classroom sessions by IIT faculty, laboratory training, industry projects and placement support. Students will receive hands-on exposure to technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors, power converter design, embedded controls, digital power systems, renewable energy technologies and electric mobility applications.
Industry-academia collaboration
As a founding industry partner, Danfoss India will contribute technical expertise, guest lectures by its engineers and support industry-academia collaboration to ensure the curriculum remains aligned with evolving industrial requirements.
Danfoss India President Ravichandran Purushothaman said power electronics has become a critical technology enabling cleaner, smarter and more energy-efficient solutions across industries.
“As India accelerates its decarbonisation and manufacturing ambitions, developing a strong pipeline of industry-ready engineers is essential. Through this initiative, we aim to equip young engineers with the capabilities required for the technologies of the future,” he said.
Supporting India’s clean energy ambitions
The programme is expected to improve employability among engineering graduates while strengthening India’s indigenous research and development capabilities in power electronics—a strategic technology that supports renewable energy integration, electric mobility, industrial automation and energy-efficient infrastructure.
Danfoss India Director – Product Development Subhash Babu Jagadam said collaboration between academia and industry is vital for building a stronger engineering ecosystem.
